Other Middle East and Africa Frequent Flyer Programs - Opinions on Nationwide Airlines in South Africa

Thinking about using it when we fly domestic in SA. Any opinions?

Nothing wrong with them.

I've used Nationwide many times (to/from Zambia, Durban, George, Cape Town, etc.), and I love them. My experience has only been in business class, however the service is great, and if you're in business and you part remotely at JNB, they have cars to take you to the main terminal so you can avoid the buses. Wine selection is pretty good, too.

I´m using them quite regulary between JNB - MQP and MQP - CPT and so far, nothing to complain. Service is better than on SAA domestic.

That kind of surprises me. Last time I flew to PE (from CPT) SA was offering C on this route (although it was a 737 service, which might have changed).

Me too! I could have sworn SAA offers C on this route.

Just quickly checked on the respective websites though a dummy booking:

BOTH SAA and Nationwide fly C class to PLZ.
SAA return fare (including taxes etc) is R3271, Nationwide is R3326.
And then there is BA (Comair), who charge, wait for it.....R3271. No price war on that sector! :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Whilst I have never had the pleasure, my parents travelled with them in June from JNB-LGW rtn in Y.

The general feedback from them was that the crew were excellent and the meals were the best they can ever remember having on an economy class flight.

However, they claim that the seats were the most uncomfortable seats they had ever experienced and they seemed to have a zero tolorence policy regarding excess baggage-if I remember correctly between the two of them they were 6KG in total over the 20KG each allowance and were charged some extortionate fee.

And of course no PTV/AVOD:eek:

Nationwide is a great airline, but there is a lot of competition in the SA domestic market. As an earlier post pointed out, there is little difference in the price for the mainstream airlines, and (IMO) little difference in the service too.

Don't forget the LCCs tho (yes, I know the OP was looking to fly C, but these are short-haul flights after all):

I did the JNB-Gatwick leg this past January and will never do it again. Very uncomfortable seats, old plane, few entertainment options, etc. Only thing decent was the food.

Having said that, perfect for a mother-in-law ... ;)

No, seriously I think she's going to go BA. It's £100 more but I suspect it will be worth it.
(Plus I can sign her up on our family BA membership and acquire the points!)

I am flying Jo'burg to Zambia in Nov. I was wondering what to expect.

Expect full meal service on the short flight. I did that trip in August and was amazed that they provided full service on such a short flight. The aircraft are ancient but clean. The FA are very professional. Also, when leaving Zambia they spray the cabin with insecticide after closing the door. It's kind of hard to breath for a few minutes.
