Need some help with iTunes. Have a Windows Media pPayer at home with 145 GB hard drive which is now completely full so I can no longer put new music on my iPod. We have ripped all of our CD'sin apple lossless format for home listening, and then we make MP3 copies for the iPods. We also have a 1000GB Buffalo TeraStation that is on the network for back-up storage which has 400 GB free space.

I need to leave the MP3's on the WMP so that I can synch the iPod, but can I move the lossless format music to the TeraStation in a way that iTunes can find it? If this is not the best way to solve the problem I would be grateful for other suggestions.

So, I would move ALL the files to the terastation, and point the itunes directory at it. You will have to have the "share" on the terastation always available for itunes, just set it up to auto connect on startup.

MOVE all the files to the terastation where you want them, I would put them in one folder marked MUSIC or something. Then, go into the itunes preferences and CHANGE the directory that itunes looks to, to the one on the terastation. Now, the network directory will be the itunes music directory. I usually click on CONSOLIDATE library when making that move, then you can delete all the files on the WMP.

Itunes can only look to one directory at a time, as the primary that is.

Many thanks. Just what I needed to know. I had a feeling I might need to move the whole works, but that is fine.

Move the whole set of files to the new device and then create a shared drive on the PC that you use iTunes with and then point iTunes to that shared device - easy to do and as long as you have a real network (not wireless) trouble free.
With wireless you can get some problems when the connection drops at in opportune moments

Unfortunately still need HELP with this! Have a full copy of the iTunes Music (all 124 GB of it) on the back up drive, but am not getting iTunes to "point" to it. I finally went to the Apple store yesterday and spent some time with one of the staff there who told me to delete the iTunes file on the computer, make an alias/shortcut of the backup drive iTunes folder, put that in the computer music folder after renaming the alias/shortcut to just "iTunes". I have done that and what happens is that iTunes keeps making a new "iTunes" folder and ignoring the alias/shortcut which should be pointing it to the music on the backup drive. I am clearly doing something wrong, but I can't seem to figure out what it is  As always, any help appreciated. It is days before the Apple store has another appointment and there is no way to call the guy I talked to.

Can you explain in a bit more detail? You should be able to go "Preferences | Advanced" in iTunes and select the directory where your music is located. I can't tell from your email whether you've not done this, or that you've done it but it still is not working.
