Not exactly sure what your question is, but if you are changing your plans due to the coup, *wood is pretty good about allowing such changes due to crises and providing refunds. I didn't see anything on their site about the situation and they seem to be allowing bookings for tonight. They may or may not give it to you, but it can't hurt to ask.

I have read that several governments (UK, NZ, Australia) have warned their citizens but haven't seen a news story out of the US.

Just came across this thread. Sounds like things are operating as normally as could be given the situation.

Hotel flexibility in waiving cancellation rules aside I personally wouldn't interrupt my travel plans.

Friends in Thailand called me this morning to assure me they were okay (I didn't have the heart to tell them I hadn't heard about the coup and so wasn't the least bit worried about them) and from what they say, this has been relatively untraumatic for all concerned. The King has tacitly signalled his acquiesence if not approval (and everyone LOVES the King, so if he's down with it I doubt there will be much unrest). Of course this month was going to be crazy anyway--the airport at Suvarnibhumi is opening on the 28th and everyone's panicked--but from a personal safety perspective, I think you'll have no problems.
