Any advice for finding the best rates to Lima from SFO or LAX? Thanks!

I don't know what you consider a deal. Usually, you can get fares from LAX or SFO to LIM for around $600.00 this time of year. Avoid the Christmas season as fares will tend to go higher.

From LAX, you can fly nonstop on LAN.

Lan Peru had some good deals on LAX-LIM last year, but I haven't been following that market too carefully recently.

A more obscure option ( I opted for from SEA ) is Air Canada to Toronto and down to Lima. Doesn't often show on travel sites, but good if wanting *A miles.. and weirdest of all.. they had the best price! (quick check shows $718 SFO-LIM Jun 2007)

Yes, but in terms of convenience, AC leaves LIM at 2:15 AM or something like that, getting into YYZ at 11 AM. Also, AC only flies this route 3 times a week, I took YYZ-EWR-LIM on CO and found it to be quite good. It's a day flight EWR-LIM and the return is a night flight. Personally, I prefer day flights as I like to read on the plane and can't sleep well on a night flight. On my return flight I was seated with two people from Vancouver who were flying through EWR to Seattle.

Try searching orbitz for the best fare/ schedule combo, in addition to LAN maybe CO through IAH or DL through ATL or AA through MIA.

Uh... the OP was looking for the best fare.

For the example I gave... $700ish from SEA-Toronto-Lima... is over $900 on CO just from EWR-LIM !!!

*sigh* Convenient flights often don't equate to best fare. I guess that's why I take red eyes, maximize miles, and work my flight schedule to match the best fare available. ( For me, CO isn't an option as it isn't *A )

Price or Quality or Schedule. We get 1, or sometimes 2. When we hit a trifecta it's time to celebrate! ^
