Will ANZ interline my bags through from LAX - LHR then on a separate eTicket LHR - EDI on bmi (a *A partner airline)?

As long as connection isnt too short (ie exceeds MCT) and you can show the onward ticket at LAX check in, then yes.

But, sadly, BMI won't, going the other way. BMI will only interline on a single ticket number.

Thanks. Will it matter that my LHR-EDI ticket is a bmi eTicket? I don't have a paper ticket in my possession.

no - just have a print out of your eticket receipt to show at check in at LAX and you'll be fine. I have done this several times. Sadly, as pointed out, bmi won't reciprocate on a return leg at LHR.

LAX - EDI *is* the return leg ;o)

I'm (sadly too) aware of the bmi rules and regs.

I believe that AC has changed their rules as well and do not interline bags anymore.

This seems to be an appropriate place to ask. I have a paper ticket itinerary going from WLG to LAX on Air NZ, and then an eTicket from LAX to LAS on United (also *A). I think I will have to re-check baggage at LAX won't I - even if just for security clearance?

Yes. At LAX you need to claim check bags, take them through customs and redeposit even if they are tagged through. You have the choice of redepositing at screening station on the right just past customs, or at United's check in. If the connection is tight (eg due to late arrival or the usual massive immigration queues for non us-resident) I would drop them at United's check in. Note your LAX-LAS flight will be on ted (ie minimal service subsidiary), unless it is a UA codeshare on america west/US - make sure you know which one it is since they are different terminals at LAX.

And, you have a long walk from the NZ terminal to UA's. Not a problem if you have time. I missed a NZ-UA connection last year, may have been year before, got to the gate and was greeted by the GA coming off the jetbridge back to the departure area :(
If your NZ flight is late departing AKL, make arrangements with UA from AKL if possible, NZ was no help whatsoever to me. The KC agent in AKL told me to not worry about it as they make up time enroute. A couple of hours out of AKL, realising I would miss our connection or it would be very tight, I asked to be met or for some help ( I was travelling in F with my then two year old), I was given lip service at best, same by the NZ ground agent at LAX.
This is the only time NZ had really shown a real weakness IMO.

Sorry for the rant, but make sure you have time, if not make arrangements ahead of time.
