I have found several mail forwarding services in the US that will:

Receive my mail
Scan envelopes
Scan contents
Allow me to trash junk mail on-line
Allow me to chose what pieces to forward
Allow me to chose where, when, and how to be forwarded

Do any of my fellow FTer's have experience with these services?

I have been looking at www.usglobalmail.com, www.usabox.com, and www.myus.com.

No experience with those services, but USPS have done a good job of forwarding all of SWMBO's regular (ie first class) mail to the UK for free.

Thanks for the references. I assume they will provide domestic services as well. Do you know?

Yes but I am still researching the providers. I am very leery of having things like bank and credit card statements sent to a third party. I'd feel better if an outfit like American Express or Western Union provided the service.

Great point. I had not considered the security angle. :p

I have now been using USABOX for eight months and I wanted to report to the community that it has been a wonderful mail forwarding solution for me.

I have found them to be customer service oriented, safe, secure, and inexpensive. I now have all of my mail delivered to an address in Miami where it is held until I tell them to ship it. They discard mail that I designate as junk and combine parcels to save on shipping. I have had them forward my mail to addresses in Malta, the UK, and the US with no problems.

If you live abroad or travel abroad for extended periods, then USABOX is a good mail solution.

I've been using http://www.usglobalmail.com for over two years now, both internationally and domestically in the US, and have been very satisfied.

We used USAbox for a year, but found it easier having our own guy scanning it in and e-mailing it (or faxing) it. However, I would probably try usglobalmail.com if we didn't have someone hired.

I found http://www.earthclassmail.com/ on a Costa Rica newsgroup. It looks like an even better solution than USABOX.

They will open your mail, scan the contents, and email them to you. It looks perfect if they are trustworthy.

Has anyone heard of Earthclassmail?

I think I may give them a tryl.

There's another ongoing thread with more first-hand discussion on various service providers:

All the companies mentioned in this forum and the one lin821 kindly provided are US outfits. Are there any companies that will receive mail in different countries?

I would recommend usamail1.com, they've got great customer service and excellent prices. They also offer package consolidation, which not all companies have, and it saves me a lot of money. I order lots of small packages, and shipping is much cheaper when I can combine them into larger packages.

Many people here in the Middle East have an Aramex account, which provides you with both USA and UK addresses, which are great for ordering merchandise on-line, buying from eBay, etc.

I have an Aramex account and like it for merchandise. The problem with mail is that they do not have the scanning or consolidation services. I think you can tell them to hold everything for two weeks and then deliver it, but that is about it.

The other thing (I haven't used them since 2007 -- things may have changed) is that you need someone with cash when they do the delivery. You couldn't do anything like arrange an automatic bill pay or keep a credit card on file. They would, however, call before a delivery and I did train my delivery person where to go if I wasn't in (but it was just down the hall).
