'Harry Potter' creator JK Rowling persuaded security staff at a New York airport to let her breach baggage rrestrictions - because she refused to be parted from the manuscript of the final 'Potter' book.
The author was given special treatment on her transatlantic flight - where heightened security measures are still in operation following the recent uncovering of a terrorist plot to blow up planes using explosives carried in hand luggage.

It's not clear to me what the special treatment was. I'm not aware of any restrictions against carrying paper on board.

Some TSA trainee read "The pen is mightier than the sword" and noticed swords are definitely on the banned list. A manuscript just might be a weapon of mass instruction. No fly. :D

As far as I know, they don't do any arithmetic, trig, calculus, etc., in the Harry Potter series, so she should be OK. The rules only prohibit weapons of math instruction.

I know the ban was against carryons out of the UK, but was there a ban going to the UK? She was leaving from the US.

She flies commercial?

Hey, even billionaires have to pinch pennys these days. If whe writes no more books, and has no interest income from her billion, with a 50 year more life expectancy, she has to keep her daily spending under $55,000 or she will die broke.

I can't believe she hand writes her books. I think I'd be stting by the beach while one servant fanned me with a palm leaf, one massaged my feet and another took dictation.
