Define interesting. Outdoors activities? Food and drink? Culture and entertainment? Within Michigan? Surrounding states? How many days?
We really need more direction if you want any decent ideas and suggestions for things to do around here.
PS: Novi is shopping malls and subdivisions. Maybe that is what you are looking for?

How long? 5-7 days
Surrounding states? Yes, but no preference which.
What to do? All of those you mentioned, but limit outdoor activities to maybe 1-3 days.
I'll be flying HKG-JFK-DTW to meet with some friends in Novi, that's why we're starting there. :)

Drive north to Frankenmuth, MI. Then head north to Traverse City, MI and ultimately Mackinack Island, MI. Continue counterclockwise around Lake Michigan, hopefully this is timed to enjoy the fall color in Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin. Consider a stop in Kohler, WI @ the American Club & Kohler Water Spa for some pampering or golf if that suits you. Definitely stop in Milwaukee and Chicago. Then head back to Novi.

If your trip is within the next month or so, the fall color tour is a great idea. Lots of fun things to do around Leelanau, Traverse City, Petoskey, and Mackinac.
Another possibility is a circle trip around Lake Erie. Go into Canada and stop at Stratford, Toronto, and Niagra area, then back into US and drive back on the south shore through Cleveland.

Lower peninsula/UP/Wisconsin/Chicago will make for a nice week of travel. American Club in Kohler is terrific!!! (Don't miss the toilet museum....literally!)

If you insist, option #2. Consider a drive down to Great Smokey Mountain National Park near Knoxville, TN. It's beautiful, and there are plenty of touristy diversions in Gatlinburg, TN. Consider along the way - - Air Force museum in Dayton, OH; Maker's Mark bourbon distillery in Loretto, KY; Mammoth Cave, KY; Louisville/Lexington, KY; Cincinnatti, OH.
