Hi all -

A few friends and I (late 20s) are driving down to Cleveland for a big sports weekend in November (Cavs Saturday, Browns Sunday) and need some ideas on what part of the city to stay in.

From what I have read, downtown seems to be pretty grim in terms of nightlife and stuff to walk to... can anyone recommend an area, and possibly a decent hotel?

I did see the name Middleburg Heights mentioned elsewhere, any good hotels in that area worth mentioning?

Thanks,

T.

From what I have read, downtown seems to be pretty grim in terms of nightlife and stuff to walk to... I wouldn't say that at all. It's not New York, but then again, it's not New York. West 6th (the warehouse district) is a pretty hip area of downtown with several high-end restaurants, night clubs and bars. There are several good hotels downtown that would be convenient to both the Q (Cav's arena) and Browns Stadium. The Marriott @ Key Center is very nice, and probably the best centrally located between the arena, the stadium, and West 6th. There is also the Ritz which usually has good weekend rates and packages that include breakfast or dinner. Stay away from the Holliday Inn. I would definitely recommend staying and playing downtown rather than heading to the 'burbs, unless you want to go bar hopping form the Applebee's to the Friday's in Middleburg Heights.

Let me know if you want additional or more specific suggestions, I'd be happy to help.

I'll second the recommendation for the Marriott Key Center - have stayed there many many times since it first opened. Along with the RC, the Ren is also in the same area. Also downtown, the Hyatt is pretty nice although a bit further from the stadium.

I would pick the Rennaisance Hotel
Its connected to Key center, the mall, the sports arena, etc

Also close to the Flats.

I have stayed at both the Marriott and the Renaissance. I prefer the Marriott. It was recently remodeled; all rooms have new beds and flat screens. Staff is always good, and it is ideally located for sporting events.
