Just a quick question---what's the current deal with cheap F and C Star RTWs? Is ex-TIP still viable? If yes, how much do they cost? If no, where else can I get a cheap F RTW (or C if I have to). I tried CMB, no go --- and I'm very much open to other suggestions. Thanks.

Okay, you got me. Had to go look up airport code TIP. It's Tripoli, Libya.

I thought ex-TIP fares for anything are no goes anymore as the flights are subsidised by the government.
In order to have access to these fares you either need Libyian residency status or a permit/visa to do business there, and, unless you already have one they are rumoured to be exceedingly difficult to obtain.

Although if any group can find a loophole, I'm sure it will be the FTers.

I have a feeling one of the ways around it was to purchase a packaged holiday there and then buy the ticket.... whilst in the country legally.
Would this be better served in the Star forum? (the title really got my hopes up there....)
The TIP hype wasn't about cheap RTW fares, it was about cheap F fares to Asia/Australia, but there are too many problems now, see this thread:

For cheap * RTWs, there are several links in the reference thread in the star forum.

As others have noted above, this one probably belongs in the *A forum. Let's continue the discussion there.

Like the OP I'm also looking into RTW fares. I'm based in Asia, so I'm wondering where I should start.
Aren't the fares published anywhere?
Cheers,
HTB.

Aren't the fares published anywhere? At the top of this Forum is a sticky thread titled *A Useful Reference Links. There you'll find that which you seek.

Hi.
cheap and good starting point with a lot of options is BKK.
-(if possible select your "home" carrier for the first segment just in case of rebooking). Why CAI- its not so much better anymore vs. BKK -make use of the milage for better destinations.
