Do any of you have any thoughts about fares for Thanksgiving on Frontier?
I'm trying to get home (Denver/ DEN) for Thanksgiving, and need to leave Wednesday
(preferably) or Thursday (November 22, 23) and return that Saturday or Sunday (25, 26) to
Washington (DCA/BWI). I flew this holiday last year and know the fares are high, talking like
$400-500.
The fares this year this are exceptionally high, even/maybe especially on Frontier. Departing
from Reagan was quoted at more than $600, and Baltimore was a little less at than $400. I was
looking at Frontier's multi-city search option and found a good fare around $400 that leaves from
Reagan Wednesday and returns to Baltimore late Saturday night, early Sunday morning. What's
bizarre is that I found this good fare yesterday morning, and a few hours later, fares had gone
nuts. This fare had gone up several hundred dollars in less than a day, and some of the other
fares, especially the DCA-DEN-DCA route shot up to around $800. What do you all think of
this? What's your experience?
I have to say I'm pretty surprised about all this. Last year I flew the Wednesday before
Thanksgiving and returned that Sunday. This year, returning Sunday is not even an option, short
of paying the arm and leg option. I talked to a reservations agent last night, and after a half-hour
of searching, told me to keep checking, and maybe go with a different airline.
I like Frontier, considering how convenient DCA is to fly out of, and also knowing that when the
weather turns poor, I'll be either stuck at home or school not at some midpoint like Minneapolis
or O'Hare! Also, I've managed to make most of my trips on Frontier this year, and am close to the
magic number, so the status would be a plus.
Thanks for your time and suggestions. Ultimately, do you think the price should go down as it
approaches the 21-day advanced deadline, or do you think prices should steadily rise as seats get
picked up? Take care and enjoy your fall travels.
