Other Middle East and Africa Frequent Flyer Programs - You’ve Just Earned 600 Miles!
"We can see from our records that you've previously provided us with your e-mail address. So to make the way you receive your communications quicker and more convenient, we'll now be sending your future copies of Update and your statement by e-mail.
As a thank you, we would like to reward you with 600 bonus miles. That's the same number of miles you would earn for a full fare return Economy Class flight from Bahrain to Doha or Muscat to Dubai.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued loyalty to Gulf Air and we hope to be welcoming you on board soon"
So, no more Update in the mail, but a few miles. I suppose that's a good thing for GF FTers!
Also got this - I only joined up a few days ago, so a good start!

I had elected to get my communications by e-mail not long after I joined up but was thinking of changing back to post because the statement format where the activity was just one return SYD-BAH-LHR had a lot of blank space and took up two A4 landscape pages. I've saved the only one I've had so far (July 2006) as a fax tiff image to cut down on paper document storage.
How many pages did the posted statements use?
I now note that it wouldn't be possible to change back to post anyway because the "Receive correspondence by" radio buttons on the modify personal details form are grayed out.

...
Update was a lavish mailout, on very glossy and heavy stock, so it is probably quite a saving, which makes sense for the airline.
Compared to other airlines, GF's quarterly package was an impressive package :D  - I hope that I will still receive the odd surprise from GF :D

One surprise that Mrs SFSC and myself got was that our initial (blue) membership packs turned up about 6 weeks after our silver packs. We thought that the blue ones had been delayed in the mail but noticed that the covering letter for the blue pack was dated some 45 days after the one for the silver pack. So we now have four guides :D
Thanks again, BiziBB , for your post earlier in the year regarding the companion offer. We had a great trip and intend to keep our eyes out next year for a similar offer (or maybe get a senior's fare - not very well documented and not as cheap as the companion offer if it's available) for another SYD-LHR trip with a possible award flight, depending on availability, BAH-ATH-BAH and visit some Greek islands on the way back.

SFSC,
You're welcome - and it's good to have another local GF flyer here!
Those guide packages are pretty large - and very high quality for an airline :)
In your situation, seeking another EU trip, I agree it is a good idea to buy a ticket most of the way and then redeem the last sector on miles.
Perhaps when GF next offers award flights at half the normal miles, or offers double/triple mile bonuses. You may be able to buy Y tickets and upgrade to J!
I checked this week and found some very good pricing ex-SYD to Europe, at least to DUB. The LHR deal wasn't as good, so maybe check out SYD-BAH and the remainder on awards?
Based on last year's great offers, I hope that we see more of the same this year, albeit with some extra charges like fuel levies.
Will your next trip get you to Gold status?

Yes, I expect we will be Gold when we get to LHR :)
At this stage we intend to pony up for SYD-BAH-LHR-BAH-SYD in F with the trip to LHR taking place in April (to see a new grandchild in the UK) about 2 weeks before the anniversary of our first flight. As it happens, we will probably fly out of the UK not long after the first flight anniversary. This means (I think) we could get Silver at least for the year after the year at Gold even if we don't travel for some reason in the GF pointy end during our Gold year. We are hoping to do a 2 weeks or so J sidetrip BAH-ATH during our return from the UK. We will look for award bonus but availability is the primary concern - we could even fly Y on this sidetrip if J is not available. Hopefully we will be able to get ATH-BAH shown with our BAH-SYD itinery so we can be protected in case GF42 and GF148 misconnect on the day we are travelling  Our Gold cards will probably be waiting for us when we get back to Aussie. Hope we don't meet up with friends we would like to invite into the lounge at ATH or BAH :(
I suspect the difference in the DUB and LHR fare is because of the GBP40 extra tax for premium cabin passengers leaving UK airports :td:
