It's an older hotel (i.e. circa 1970s), 18 or so floors, and a friendly staff from my experiences during the 80s. It is on Victoria Square, next to the city market and about three blocks from the casino and most museums and galleries on the North Terrace. Sounds like a great meal and certainly plenty of superb wines from the Borassa Valley and elsewhere in S.Australia. Take the trolley into South Adelaide, a seaport, railway museum and some nice little restaurants. Nice place for an afternoon stroll.

Hilton Adelaide is a little dated and the rooms are small, but this is common for this city.

It is located right around the corner from Gouger St which is full of bars and trendy restaurants.

The hotel has 2 restaurants, the upscale grange and a casual bistro, which will offer the same menu as the Grange, which is good if you have Kids.

There is a small hairdresser shop located in the hotel, don't be put off by the size, they are excellent.

Take a trip to the Barossa Valley, head for Tanunda and find a small winery on Kondoff rd called Rockford.

Ask for Dave Kalleske and get into the back room for a vinophile dream...

Adelaide is a delightful city, the tram to the coast is a nice trip, I love to just stroll and do the coffee shops....

Have fun..

I forgot about the market next door -- it's really a nice place. We used it a couple of times for picnics or hotel room snacks. I also agree about touring the Barossa -- if you're strapped for time, you can arrange to be picked up at the hotel in the morning and returned that same evening. One neat way to do this is with John Baldwin in a classic Daimler limousine. See www.barossadaimlertours.com.au (http://www.barossadaimlertours.com.au) .

It's fine - a little dated, as Ferrari says. There's a nice outdoor pool. Be aware that there are two Hiltons in Adelaide - the one we're all talking about, and a really grotty motel on the road in from the airport!

The Adelaide Hilton is well located on Victoria Square with a bus stop across the road to catch the free city bus that will take you down the main road (King William Street to the Adelaide Casino). Also across the road is the Glenelg Tram which is a beautiful old tram that will take you to the beach (although Adelaide has some better beaches in my opinion but this one is easy to get to).

I stayed here two nights ago and I was upgraded to the Executive floor with a corner room. It is a nice hotel but a little dated. This is more than made up for by some of the nicest hotel staff in Australia (Australia in my opinion has the best service industry staff in the world).

I arrived at 8:15PM and the lounge closes at 8:30. The guy in the executive lounge said "No Worries - whattaya drink?" I said beer and 5 minutes later he brought a tray with three ice cold South Australian Coopers beers to my room. No charge.

For breakfast there was an excellent selection of fresh fruit, breads, hot breakfast, and the rest. The morning lady was excellent and made everyone feel at home.

The only shortfall is the excessive internet charges to use the internet in the lounge. Other than this, you could do a lot worse but not much better elsewhere in Adelaide. Yes it is a 1980 built hotel but the people really make this place.

I agree also with the previous quotes, have stayed at the Adelaide Hilton several times in the last 18 months and have always enjoyed my stays.

The remarks about the Executive lounge are true as well, it's intimate, well appointed and the staff are fantastic.

The difference between the standard rooms and the Executive floor rooms is quite noticeable. Apparently all rooms are being renovated, however if you get one of the older ones, they have definitely seen better days, particularly the bathrooms. They're OK if you like '70s style decorating, but the executive rooms are much nicer.

Enjoy your stay in Adelaide, and make the most of the local food and wine!
