I know some companies hold upto 300 on your cc on top of your charges. Do you know which companies do not hold any additional deposit? Or which company holds the least? I am renting in FLL.

As far as I know, the additional credit card holds are pretty standard policy. Usually it's just an authorization though - the money is not actually charged to your credit card. Debit cards do get more tricky, which is why many rental car companies don't accept them.

I was just wondering because it usually takes 4 to 5 days for the authorization to be released. I'll explain to you my concern.

Rental in FLL from Sep 24 to Sep 26.
Rental Cost: $50
Hold amount $300

I am then going to another city
Rental in SFO from Sep 26 to Sep 28
Rental Cost: $50
Hold amount $300

Then I am returning to FLL for a few days before flying home:
Rental in FLL from Sep 28 to Sep 30
Rental Cost: $50
Hold amount $300

So in one week, I am renting cars for a total of $150 bucks but I will temporarily not have access to over $900 worth of credit. That's why I'm trying to find out which company holds the least at rental time.

I have found that this varies by location, as all rental car companies have locations that hold deposits.

Deposits are the norm. The only place that doesn't is my local home town Enterprise location.

The easiest solution is to just increase the limit on your cc to absurd levels. It's much faster than worrying about the holds.

Try renting with National car rental....last I knew they only held the amount of rental.

After returning the car, the blocked amount will be deleted: The maximum amount would be 300 in your case?!?!

Huh? Blocked amount? There are only three basic types of transactions in relation to credit cards: authorizations, charges, and credits (all in layman terms of course).

When an authorization is released or expires, each credit card company has a different time length in which you will see the change in your “available credit.” I agree that this is a very minor thing to worry about as most people have no problem getting a credit card with credit limits much higher than most people use.
