Other Middle East and Africa Frequent Flyer Programs - JNB to MRU on Dec 19 as cheap as possible

Hi,

on December 19 I have to go from JNB to MRU, ideally on SAA since I arrive at 7AM on SA235 from London.

Who can find the best deal on SAA and how does it compare to low cost carriers ?

Maybe cheaper from Durban ?

I just need a oneway and Amex cannot help and there are no award seats on the SAA flight. That's why I turn to my creative FT friends.

Best regards,
Sebastian

Well, as far as I am aware there aren't any low cost carriers on that route, so your only options really are Air Mauritius and SAA - and there doesn't even seem to be any availability (award or paid for) on SAA on that date (in economy or business) - so looks like you may be stuck with Air Mauritius as the only option (unless you do LHR-MRU direct)

SA 190 has availability in Full fare C on that date albeit at a hefty price of R 7.920,-- (give or take 900,-- Euro).

Well, that does not look good at all ?

No flights from Durban or another city in SA to MRU ?

I saw the fullfare biz deal which is really expensive for a 4 hour flight.

On Air Mauritius, it's "only" R4566 in economy, and it only departs at 23:35. This seems the cheapest possible at the moment.

There are Air Mauritius flights from Durban, but they are not cheaper either.

So I guess you are stuck with the full fare business class fare from SAA.

Even ignoring availability, the cheapest fare is just under R4,000 one-way or over R5,000 return.

Only MK from JNB on that day. It leaves at 23.35 hrs. - a rather inconvenient time considering your arrival time. Best economy price shows at R 4.566,-- for the one way - pretty expensive as well.

It's school holidays here at that time so flights to MRU will be pretty packed.

I got a full fare reservation for the SA190 flight. Only two seats left.

Thanks for your advice. Bad situation, bad I have to go that day.

Any reasonably priced hotels in Mauritius for me?

Le Meridien looked ok on the website, might be worth a stay as an SPG member.

How is the north-west of the island where the Le Meridien is located ?

I will be alone and do not need a One and Only property.

Kindest regards,
Sebastian

I recommend the Hilton Mauritius Resort; they tend to treat HHonors Gold/Diamonds well, IME.
