Did Delta serve turtle soup in int'l first class between
NYC and Frankfurt in the early 1990's?

I am in the process of coverting several boxes of old family
video from 8mm video to DVD video. One of the tapes was
videotaped when my family were flying from Frankfurt to
New York. There was no date on the tape. The only clues
are whatever were spoken on the tape. It was a first class
cabin in a two-row 2-1-2 configuration.(767?) My little
niece was sitting in the middle single seat as others family
members tried to convince to try the "turtle soup" during
lunch service.

Prior to landing in NYC, every first class passenger were
also given a $50 Tiffany's gift certificate. On the video,
a DL flight attendant was show handing me the certificate.
(a grandma-class FA, probably from Pan Am?)

Based on this, can anyone help me determine what month/
year, this video was shot?

Thanks!

Obviously, your title was cut off. I was wondering why Delta would serve turtle soup in the ear.

In the early nineties most Pan Am FAs weren't grandma age! :p

In December of 1998, Delta was going through a transition from their previous 3 class international service and the current 2 class product. During the months after the transition was announced, you could still sit in FC and have BC service. Few planes in that month had been converted to the two class product.

So, your trip had to be before mid 1999. Now, as for how long before that - the previous configuration of aircraft had been in place for a while, certainly from the early 1990's on, although I can't remember a specific date when the cabins were refreshed before the 1999 timeframe.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and the gift cards I remember were not for a dollar amount, but for specific items. Perhaps that's a better clue. For most of my trips in the 1990's (say 1992 - 1999) when I flew FC, I got Tiffany cards that were good for specific items like vases ( I got tons of these!), leather bound maps, curio boxes, etc. and not for a $ amount. And another selection of "better" items for two coupons. Anyone remember $ amount of thank-you cards???
