Stayed one night at the Hilton in Vancouver Washington. Very nice accomodations. It must have been recently renovated. Room were upscale and very clean. The bed was the best I have ever had at a Hilton. Also, had a wonderful breakfast in the morning before continuing my trip to Seattle for a week cruise. The location is very convienent and situated downtown. Probably one of the nicest Hiltons I have every stayed at.

Anyone else have experience of this hotel. We'll be staying in Vancouver in October and are considering the Hilton?

Thanks

The rooms seems new because the hotel just opened nov 2005. This is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at.

This is a brand new hotel, opening just less than a year ago I believe. It's in downtown Vancouver, which is seeing come back. If I'm correct, it's attached to a conference center too. I've not stayed at this property, had reservations there for a weekend get-away, but changed them to ES at Portland Airport (a great property). I'm glad to see a new Hilton Family property open in the greater Portland-Vancouver metro area! :)

Why would anyone stay in Vancouver? Unless you have a family visit to make or business on that side of the river, Vancouver doesn't make a great base to visit our part of the world. Much better deals on 4 and 5 * properties in Portland can be had on Priceline.

Using the same argument why would anyone stay in Portland?

I was actually being serious - I would assume if you are moving to Whistler, you've spent some time in Portland. If not, you will be subjected to more Portlanders than you care to meet invading your turf in BC.

Vancouver is an industrial city comprised largely of commuters to Portland-area jobs. The "city" center is being rejuvenated, but there is little to see or do there. Portland is, by all accounts, a pretty nice place to visit and has one or two nice attractions.

Breakfast for two (continental or $8 off). Best breakfast I've ever had. Seriously I think it's a mistake that this property only requires 25,000pts (which is a good reason to stay there). It's true that downtown Vancouver doesn't offer too much, Portland is a better bet if you're into nightlife, shopping etc. However for a few days this is a very good alternative (esp for 25K pts!). Go for the upgrade to the parlor suite, it's awesome.

Have not been to Portland - yet - but by the sounds of it will make a trip down there to check it out sometime.

The posting is about a Hilton in Vancouver, WA (northern suburb of Portland, OR). I presume you are refering to the HI in Vancouver, BC. There is no Hilton in downtown Vancouver, BC.

While I have visited Vancouver, BC several times, I have never stayed at the HI. I seem to recall favorable comments on this property though. I would suggest using search for more details.

I've got a weekend stay at the Vancouver WA Hilton later this month and would appreciate any info about recent stays. Are Diamonds being upgraded? Do we still get $8 off a breakfast menu item? Any recommendations regarding getting a quiet location?

I already asked for a quiet room in my reservation and I'll ask politely again at check-in, but it always helps to know if there are any obviously bad/good areas.

Thanks!

I stayed here in April as a Diamond member. Didn't get an upgrade this time -- often get the huge multi room suite. Of course, that was the weekend when HH system was showing Diamond members as Blue. I asked Diamond Desk to call and alert the hotel, but it didn't seem to take. $8 breakfast chit still offered.

Still offer HSIA for only $5/day. While being chargedat FS hotels (vs. free at mid service properties) is annoying, at least they offer it a more affordable rate.

Vancouver WA has an interesting history - while "miscegenation" / mixed race marriages were unlawful in CA, NV, AZ and OR, mixed race couples from CA would drive / train / bus to Vancouver WA to marry. (California's mixed race marriage prohibition was overturned by the State Supreme Court in 1948.)

But today? Not so sure why one would choose to visit, other than the reasons you list.

Why would anyone stay in Vancouver? Unless you have a family visit to make or business on that side of the river, Vancouver doesn't make a great base to visit our part of the world. Much better deals on 4 and 5 * properties in Portland can be had on Priceline.

We had a good stay. We were upgraded to a quiet deluxe room on the top floor with a nice view of the Columbia River. We watched trains, boats and planes go by and wondered whether the riverboat we saw was the one used in the movie Maverick (which was filmed in part on the Columbia.)

Diamond benefits included the upgraded room with bathrobes, 2 bottles of water per day and the continental breakfast coupons mentioned in prior posts. We thought it was a nice touch that they gave us both the USA Today and the local Columbian newspaper.

We appreciated the room facing the river since there was a jazz festival going on in the park on the other side of the hotel and we were concerned that we'd hear the music. But the only sounds we heard were the occasional jet out of PDX and a few trains. These noises were faint and didn't wake us up.

All of the staff we had contact with were helpful and the restaurant was fine. The Sunday buffet didn't start until 10 a.m. so we didn't get to try it, but the food we had off the menu was good. The one big negative was that the A/C in the room didn't cool the room as much as we would have liked. But we like rooms extra cool for sleeping so most people would probably be just fine. Also the room wasn't exactly spacious but for 2 people it was fine.

Edited to add: If you eat in their restaurant in the near future check your receipt to see whether it offers you 500 bonus HH points for completing a survey. If so, be sure and keep the receipt. When I called to do the survey over the phone they asked for a number off of the receipt. The survey only took a couple of minutes. Hopefully the 500 points will follow.

I am initiating a <bump> to see if there are any updates on this property.

I am going to the PDX area in June to see Mt. St. Helens and the Columbia River Valley and Astoria and have a reward stay booked here. Many thanks!

I stayed at this Hilton last month for 2 nights over a weekend visiting friends. As a Gold (at that time) I was upgraded to a very nice room with a terrace overlooking the park in front. When the door was closed I did not hear any noise from the park, or anything else really. With the door open I enjoyed listening to the trains hooting at night...not enough to wake me up, but soothing.

The room was in very good condition, with a comfortable lounging chair, and very comfortable bed. While I didn't use the pool, I did use the exercise room. It was well equipped with TV's, Ellipticals, Treads, Etc. Plus lots of wipe down clothes and disinfectant everywhere (Re: MRSA).

The lounge was a lot of fun too. The made several nice Martini's. Service in all areas was very friendly, yet respectful. Parking in the underground garage was a little tight though as there were some weddings or parties happening both nights.

I would definitely recommend it if convenient. The 3rd night in the area I spent at an HGI. Nice, but disappointing after the Hilton. I have stayed at the Downtown Portland properties and enjoyed the Vancouver Hilton much better.

Mucho thanks, PVDtoGO. ^ Can anyone tell me if this is definitely the most convenient HH property to Mount St. Helens? How about Astoria and the Columbia Valley?

Thanks!

Yes, this is the the most convenient property to Mt. St. Helens, Astoria and the Columbia Valley, but just a fair warning that Vancouver is about a 2 hour drive (give or take) from all those places.

While you're here in the Vancouver area, go to McMenamin's on the River, which is about a 15-20 min. walk from the Hilton. McMenamin's is a local institution for good food and good beer. :D The Salmon Creek Brewpub (which is about 10 blocks from the Hilton) is also good.

Does the Hilton Vancouver WA has an Executive Lounge?
Also, anybody remembers (approx) the length of their indoor pool? Thanks.

I should add my 2 cents on this place. Granted we had no status, but on our honeymoon, they treated us wonderfully. We had spent a few nights in Seattle, and were making our way down to eugene, so we broke it up with stops in Portland.

Turned out once we figured out the exit to get to the racetrack to grab the MAX, it was a breeze to just drive over, park the car and hop the MAX to head into downtown Portland. The front desk staff was very helpful in showing us which stops we wanted to hit for different locations.

They were also very helpful in finding us a Hilton in Eugene. I have no idea why the searches were not turning anything up, but we thought we would be limited to Red Lion in Eugene. The front desk arranged a reservation and everything for us. Maybe these things seem like small things, but we found the front desk to be nothing but helpful.

The room we were in was very nice and quiet, with a mostly unobstructed view of the Columbia River. There is a very nice park across the street from the hotel as well. They are making a concerted effort to improve the downtown area, although currently it is a quite difficult to find a convenience store. We had to go a few blocks to the nearest one.

I wish I could remember the name of the greasy spoon we had breakfast at one day. Great breakfast at a good price. Has tons of pictures of customers on the wall, and some funny sayings as well. About 3 blocks away. Breakfast was good in the hotel as well, although as you would expect a fair bit pricier. *Edit: Just saw our honeymoon photos. It's called Joe Brown's cafe.

While I can see the advantages of staying in downtown Portland, this is a definite alternative that i wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Since this thread is active again, will just note that I booked a Visa Signature promo room here for July 1 for only $74. A tremendous deal for the greater Portland area. And I agree with the previous posters - this is a very, very nice property.

Why the fuss about Vancouver, WA?

It's becoming a retirement haven.

Something about no WA income tax and no OR sales tax across the bridge; skiing in the AM, boating in the PM, scenery to die for, temperate climate, Ring series, roses, ...

While, still partial to the Portland Hilton, the Vancouver Hilton and staff are class acts.
