Starwood Preferred Guest - Getting to plat the hard way or by status match

I was wondering what is more beneficial for me to get to plat. I am already a hilton diamond and so could ask for a status match from Starwood. However, I'm about 5 stays away from earning plat at starwood the hard way. just wondering if it is any benefit to try to get the match or if getting the it the hard way provides a longer term of plat status?

Get it the "hard way." It isn't a longer term (although with a match I don't know if in August you'd get it until early '07 or until early '08). There are reasons which I really don't want to go into here, but get it the hard way.

You may want to get it comped first, which may only valid until Feb 2007, then stay 5 more to secure your status until Feb 2008.

By doing this, you can receive platinum benefit with 5 upcoming stays this year.

If you get comped until until Feb 2008, then it's your call - whether you enjoy platinum benefit for the rest of the year or quest for other program's status.

Per Lurker, once you've reached Plat status, you cannot ask for a status match down the road.
