How sad! Loss of life was great...and such a small news item

Looks like a fire on board and unsuccessful emergency landing. All 160 passengers and 10 crew died. :(

I read the NYT report and a witness described the plane as "falling like a petal." The disconnect between that image and what must have been horrific carnage sort of blows my mind.

I hope none of my friends were on that flight.

Irina Andrianova of the Russian emergencies ministry said: "The plane most likely was hit by lightning."

Can an airplane be hit by lightning? I guess so...
