In what used to be the "city above Toronto" that is now the "sprawl above Toronto", Hilton has found sweet spot on Highway 7 and Highway 400 the is likely to cater to many tastes.

Stayed there saturday, here are some pros:
- 2 storey waterslide in indoor pool...who knew I could go so fast?? Had a blast soaking those "unsuspecting" swimmers at the bottom. (slide only in use when lifeguard (2) are on duty...on Saturday is was from 2pm until 9pm...pool was open until 11pm I think)
- gold upgrade w/out asking
- breakfast vouchers w/out asking
breakfast was decent...cooked to order eggs, waffles from the iron etc.
- complimentary voucher for 2 bottles of agua from hotel "pantry"
- attached Toscana conference center.

Probably the biggest plus for the hotel is it's close proximity (5 minutes on hiway 400) to the new Vaughan Mills Mall...with it's flagship Bass Pro Shops and great stores like Holt Renfrew outlet etc. Hotel is 100yards from Ikea and future shop and Homesense are right across the street.

Rooms have high ceilings, lots of room to move and fridge & microwave and in-room safe. I love the new properties that have room aircondition that works and complimentary high speed internet.

No real cons that I can think of. We'll definitely go back when Mrs Anvil gets the shopping bug again.

cheers,

We are Diamond HHonors members who stayed last night in the Hilton Garden Inn Toronto/Vaughan. It was not the best experience. To the hotel's credit, they did upgrade us to a one bedroom junior suite (after much polite cajoling on my part - demonstrating to them that upgrade rooms were avaialbe at check-in time). However, the TV was missing in the living area (the cable, electrical cord, remote and brackets were there but the TV was missing). We called the front desk and they stated that the TV was out for repairs. In addition, in our Diamond profile, we always ask for a quiet room far from the elevator. The hotel gave us a room right next to the elevator very close to a major highway that seemed to be a favorite route of truck drivers who are learning how to use the clutch. I'm surprised that the hotel would place a valuable room in such a dubious location. I just wished we received some full disclosure along the lines of "Well, we can give you an upgraded room but it is next to the elevator and facing the highway, is that OK?" We would have thanked them for the opportunity and told them that we will stay in our originally assigned room. Also, we had some difficulty prying a breakfast coupon from the front desk. Maybe all this happened because the hotel is trying to work out the kinks. Maybe it is becuase I walk with a cloud over my head. But, we were not impressed with our first experience in the Hilton Garden Inn Toronto/Vaughan

You should have gone to IKEA next door for the $1 breakfast :p

Sorry to hear your experience was opposite of mine.

For the junior suite, what floor were you on ?

Thanks for your kind words. We were on the 4th floor, right around the corner from the elevator (elevator shaft backs onto the bedroom wall). The noise from the highway required stuffing Kleenex in the ears to muffle the sound, a technique that met with only small success in creating a restful night before an important business meeting.
Breakfast room staff, at 7am, preemptively moved us to another table while we were getting our food, to a table with some used place settings (one of the spoons had been clearly licked and had leftover yogurt on it).
Our first choice is usually the Garden Inn in nearby Markham, but they were, sadly, fully booked.
The new Vaughan location hopefully needs to work out the kinks and run a customer service workshop with its staff, and it will be a nice place to stay for tourists with children who want to visit the nearby attractions.
