Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - AA PLT - Flying on CX, earning AA miles, advantage to joining MPC or Asiamiles?

Hi, I'm an AA platinum who's flying to BKK this fall with my wife. I've just purchased H fares and plan to earn AA miles to help requalify for next year.

Is there any advantage to joining MPC or Asiamiles prior to this trip? Specifically could it help me select exit row seats, or get additional paid upgrade options upon checkin?

Any *disadvantage* to joining, like the possibility that it could screw up my AA miles earning or cause them not to see my OW status?

Or is it just pointless, since I'll never accumulate asiamiles?

Both. If you join MPC and credit these flights to your MPC number, where you'll be a lowly green member, the fact that you are AA Plat will be "lost" to the computer systems. No lounge invite, no special privileges in case of a screwup. And lastly, no AA mileage credit if you give them your MPC number. Stick to AA and reap all the benefits.

IIRC, I had no problem selecting exit-row seats as AA PLT. You cannot do it on-line, but a call to reservation agents should take care of it.

Ah that's great advice, thanks!

BTW.. out of BKK - HKG you can buy a same day upgrade on CX for minimal $$.. Like a couple thousand baht IIRC.
