Hello everyone,

This property opens January 1. I am trying to book through the DD and only revenue rooms are available. I asked if they could force a rez and they say they cannot.

There is plenty of availability... Isn't policy such that if there is a standard room, you can get in on an award?

I wonder if the above might be a function of Hilton not being absolutely sure the property will be open in Jan 2007.

When that property first came to my attention it was supposed to open in June 06, then it was changed to Sept 06 .. now Jan 07.

Drove by there a few weeks ago and there's a lot of work left to be done.

Then why would they offer revenue room reservations?

I was able to get a reward reservation for January, but now they appear to have a delayed opening to February.

So is the hotel supposed to call me? Book at another property?

Anyone have an idea? I tried calling the hotel, but the main line has voicemail and the mailbox is full.

You would think they would contact me by now.

If you arrive and have no place to stay, try this non-franchised honey. This is a beautiful hotel with rooms three-feet from the surf line. If you ask for the "annex" rooms or older wing the rates are extremely reasonable for high season. All the rooms have been completely renovated, but you want the best than ask for the main tower that is new-built and more expensive. They have the only lazy river pool in South Florida.

I realise that this is a new resort but has anyone had the pleasure yet of staying here? We're wondering whether to visit in May? Any feedback would be appreciated :)

The opening of this property which was scheduled in December is now around Feb 14/15th (hence the lack of reports).

I have a two night award booked for 4/20-21 but since this is one of the few new Hilton catagory 6's and rates running around $500 this place better be very good to compete with SPG's newly opened St Regis and their very nice The Atlantic which are within two blocks of the Hilton.
That said the next two/three months are the very peak season for that area.

The Hilton does have one distinct advantage over the others in that its located on the east side of A1-A ( beach side) so to access the ocean guests will not have to cross the often very busy road as they need to do from the Starwood hotels.

Quick report on a stay earlier this month:

Note that the hotel is still being fitted out so quite a few services are still being ramped up. e.g. no lounge, no spa, additional work on the pool area, very basic business centre etc. According to the staff everything should be 100% up to speed within a month.

Location:

North of Fort Lauderdale in an area that is being heavily redeveloped. The new W is being built right next door so be prepared for construction noise. Judging by appearance it looks like they will be working on it for at least another 3-4 months. Great beach just across the road. Shops, restaurants are mainly to the south, a few are within walking distance along the promenade.

Rooms:

Spacious and well equiped, all appear to have a separate sitting and kitchen area with appliances (microwave, stove, washer-dryer etc.) The suites have a breakfast bar, larger stove and fridge and a dishwasher. Each room has two large (32") flat screen T.V's one in the bedroom and the other in the sitting area. Ample bathrooms with spa bath and shower. (Additional guest bathroom with shower in the suites).

All rooms have a private balcony. 'Oceanfront' rooms (and presumably penthouse rooms) have a wonderful view over the ocean. 'Oceanview' rooms towards the back of the property offer a limited sidewise view which is a little dissapointing.

xx09-xx18 rooms should be o.k. in terms of view. xx17 and xx18 are 1 bed ocean front suites with a wrap around balcony and the spa bath positioned just inside double windows ^

Some of the largest rooms seem to be at the back of the hotel with "Intercoastal" views. Did not had a chance to look at one but would probably push to avoid these if possible.

There were a few teething problems with lighting, air-con and electrical outlets while we were there. Check that your toaster works and that the water to the washer-dryer is turned on! ;)

Services:

There was not much on offer while we were there. Only tried the restaurant (located on the 6th floor as are the gym and pool) for breakfast and it was fine. Wait staff are a little "green" but very friendly and helpful.

Gym is small but reasonably well equipped.

Valet parking is $27+tax (ouch!). We did not manage to figure out if there is a cheaper alternative nearby. There is metered parking around the hotel but it seems to operate on a 24hour basis with a 4 hour maximum stay. (We were not familiar enough with local parking enforcement to risk using it).

Staff:

Overall extremely helpful and friendly. All our requests to Guest Services were dealth with quickly and efficiently ^ It is clear that some of the staff are still learning the ropes but no worries.

Overall:

We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. Not cheap if paying $ but would be an excellent place to burn points.

The Hilton does have one distinct advantage over the others in that its located on the east side of A1-A ( beach side) so to access the ocean guests will not have to cross the often very busy road as they need to do from the Starwood hotels.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news on this one but the hotel is actually on the West side of A1A and you do need to cross to get to the beach.

Anyone stayed here as a Gold on an award stay? I'm curious if you get an upgrade from a studio room, which appears to be their lowest category? Any other perks received by Golds on award stays?

We just got back from a 4 day award stay. As a Diamond member, I was upgraded to a suite with separate living room, full kitchen, king bed, 2 bathrooms and lovely balcony that wrapped around the front and side of our room. I had put in an upgarde request when I booked. The front desk staff whispered back and forth about the upgrade request when I checked in (which made me a bit uncomfortable), but did provide an upgrade. The room had an amazing view of the ocean across the street.

We were given coupons for free continental breakfast in the only open restaurant. It was an ample breakfast-made to order omelets, bacon/sausage, scrambled eggs, cereal, cheese, fruit, yogurt and bagels/pastries. There is no Executive Lounge. The staff in the bar/ restaurant are very courteous, but prices for drinks at the bar and for dinner are quite high (we had drinks, but opted not to eat there because of the prices).

There is a good-sized pool with a great view of the ocean-we spent most of the days we were there lounging by the pool or on our balcony.

Personnel at the concierge desk were pleasant and helpful.

The hotel is still being worked on-the fitness room is open, but we did not see evidence of a spa. We were told that a second restaurant and gift shop are planned, but are not open yet. Thre were workmen on a scaffold touching up the balconies a couple of days that we were there. There is a fair amount of construction in the area, but we did not find it noisy (in fact, it was fun to watch).

Be forwarned that they have nightly turndown service and that housekeeping can present themslves at inopportune times-once, we had a knock on the door at 10:15 PM from housekeeping.

Parking is valet and pricey at $27 per night-we lucked out and found street parking on one side of the hotel-the constructon workers use it so you have to be lucky to get a spot. We also heard that beach chairs were $20 per person per day, so we opted to sun at the pool and save the beach for walks.

Meals: Trina (at the Atlantic next store-kind of pricey-decent food and good wine/drink list but we were a bit underwhelmed).
Eduardo de San Angel-about a 10 minute drive away-described as "Continental Mexican"-great food and they had a coupon on Restaurant.com which could be used on Friday nights-not inexpensive, but a good value with the coupon for the quality of the food.
Hi-Life Cafe-very good food-awesome Coca-Cola cake! Very caring service. They have a special on Sunday nights where you can get 3 courses for under $30 per person. Also about 10 minutes from the hotel.
Las Vegas Cuban-also 10 minutes away-very reasonable-we thought it would eb fun to try Cuban food-tasty but used a little too much oil-not much of a wine list.
Tom Jenkins BBQ-we took Route 1 south (Federal Highway) and hit this on our way to the airport-very basic, but very good BBQ and mac and cheese.

We did a boat ride on the "Carrie B" which was fun-there is a 2 for 1 coupon in the Friday FL Sun Sentinel-however, I think I heard that they may not be doing trips in the summer. Las Olas Boulevard looks like fun-we walked along one day but did not eat there.

We also took a ride out to Sawgrass Mills-the largest outlet center that I have ever seen-as well as to the Bonnet House (about 5 minutes from the hotel-near the gallery Doubletree)-interesting tour of the home of an artist and his family-not sure if I would do that one again-interesting but not worth $18pp admission (with AAA discount).

...We also heard that beach chairs were $20 per person per day, so we opted to sun at the pool and save the beach for walks....

When we were there earlier this year the Hotel was reimbursing the cost of the beach chairs - has this changed??

We did not ask. The pool is partially srrounded by Plexiglass which provides a nice view of the water, so we not motivated to move to the beach. The spots near the Plexiglass filled up on weeknds, but not during the week.

Stayed for several nights just before Thanksgiving. Used points for initial nights, then paid. As Gold, received an "upgrade" for points nights to 1-bedroom with beach view; also looked north to Trump construction. Never heard any noise from the construction. Hotel offered to consider moving us once paid nights kicked in, but we didn't follow-up because we didn't want to take the time to move.

Note that the Hhonors breakfast coupons are not for the buffet, but only get you 2 muffins/croissants, coffee/tea, and juice. An upgrade to the "cold buffet" (salmon, cheeses, fruit) is $4 per person, and the hot items (eggs, sausage) cost even more. We were told that the policy recently changed. On Sunday there is a chef making omelettes.

Also, we were given kids' coupons for the Hhonors breakfast as well. Presumably the breakfast upgrades cost the same for them.

Overall a good experience, and we would stay there again. This hotel is still working out a few kinks, but with the St. Regis and Atlantic nearby and the adjacent Trump and W opening up in a year, competition will be tough.

I never stayed at the Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00667.jpg)so I thought I would check it out.

This property located on the beach (you need to cross the street for access). A new development, one the W Hotel, is going up on either side of he property. There are no restaurants, retail, or grocery stores with in a few blocks of the hotel. [If that is incorrect please let me know and I will edit this post] You need to walk south towards the St. Regis.

This was a quiet an uneventful stay. Although I was there only one day the area was extremely quiet with no traffic.

Arrived at 2:15 pm. The lobby was empty. Therefore, I step up to the front desk. Hand the agent my Diamond card & form of payment and the agent informs me they are expecting me as a Diamond and have me "all taken care of" and that I'm in a "great room".

I prefer rooms that are away from the elevator and that get LOTS of light. I was assigned a room on the 23 floor. I take the elevators up and realize the room is next to the elevator. Ughhh. Then to my surprise I walk into the smallest room (with small balcony) I've ever received at a Hilton property. As I start my usual inspection of the room, I notice a large stain on the carpet and that there is no door lock. I call and request to be moved & note the issues with the room. The guest services agent apologizes and says he'll move me and alert the operations about the stain & missing door lock.

I was then assigned a room on the 19 floor. This room again is next to the elevator bank. I look down the short hallway in both directions and realize there are 16 rooms on the upper floors, four which are directly adjacent to the elevator landing. I sigh again.

I walk in (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00645.jpg) and I am pleasantly surprised. This room is much larger and set up similar to an "open floor plan (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00646.jpg)" Embassy Suites. You enter, walk a few steps and your in front the bathroom, the next "room" is the bedroom, then finally living room (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00657.jpg) with kitchenette (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00656.jpg)& a wrap (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00663.jpg)balcony (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00664.jpg). When guest services called to check on the new room, I inquired as to why I was not assigned this room from the start?

Upon checkout the Front desk Mgr. Inquired as to my stay and based on the notes in reservation and pretty much repeated the above.

Common Areas [4]
Clean modern (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00674.jpg)and well lit. Lobby (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00677.jpg)is bright and airy.

Guest Rooms [4]
(2nd) Room what looks to be a *look up room type*. Bright, modern with lots of light. However, the carpet was stained. It appears that this is a common theme in all the rooms as the light colored carpet changes color when cleaned.

Overall First Impression: Great - this is what I was expecting

Closet Space: Large double door walk in closet (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00651.jpg). Love that there is an electric socket inside the closet so you don’t have to hunt for one or unplug something else to iron.
TV: flat panel in each "room". The channel election was so-so.
Lighting: Ample lighting
View: Good partial view of ocean (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00660.jpg), the W hotel (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00661.jpg)and you can even see downtown Ft. Workspace: Nice desk with drawers (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00654.jpg)and plenty of sockets yet the work area is tiny since its shared with the TV. Could be a problem for some
Radio/Audio: Hilton clock with DVD player (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00655.jpg). First time I've seen this model.

Guest Room Bathrooms [4]
Nice size bathroom with good counter space, although I don't understand why there are no double vanity.
Sink: Residential feel with good counter space (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00649a.jpg). Enough working space for two people to prepare without bumping into each other.

Toiletries: Typical Hilton toiletries bath toiletries

Housekeeping N/A
No issues as I only spent one night in the property.

Club Level/Lounge N/A
No

Fitness Center [5]
Nice equipment cardio machines (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00675.jpg) and free weights (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00676.jpg). Adjacent to pool but directly across from the restaurant.

Pool [5]
Nice pool (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00666.jpg)and pool deck with two hot tubs and plenty of space for people to spead out (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00659.jpg). Staff was very attentive.

Business Center N/A
Didn't see one.

Concierge N/A
Didn't use, but there is a concierge on staff located in the lobby across from reception. She was very busy whenever I walked past. From the looks of things it appears she earns her salary!

High Speed Wired/Wireless Internet Access [4]
I think there is free wireless in the lobby. There is a $14 fee in rooms. Rooms are also wired. The signal was very strong and quite fast & I was never dropped.

Parking/Valet [5]
Very fast. I called for the car prior to going out and it was there before I got downstairs. This was approximately 5-7 minutes.

Dining N/A
Didn’t use but there is a restaurant on site.

Miscellaneous
The hotel offers free shoeshines (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00680.jpg)and here is a list of other miscellaneous charges (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98/CheapElite/Hilton%20Fort%20Lauderdale%20Beach%20Resort/DSC00673.jpg) and I’ve attached a pick showing miscellaneous charges.

FINAL IMPRESSION
Overall hotel cleanliness:
Carpet stains in numerous rooms at a location that is billed as a flagship is unjustifiable.

Staff attitude, conduct & support:
The initial room assignment was inexcusable. Agents at a top notch property should know the loyalty program benefits, so top level elite members don't have to, “work” for published benefits. The recovery and follow-up was good.

Location:
Good location for beach access but, you will need to walk, drive or take a cab to get to the hub of restaurants or Las Olas.

Would I return?
Yes. Based on price and time of year. As this is the only Hilton property on the Fort Lauderdale beach.

Would I recommend this as family friendly?
Yes.

Good for business travelers?
No, since it’s away from the CBD

Good for a romantic get away?
Yes, nice rooms, views and resort services.

Would I recommend for someone looking for Dining/Nightlife?
Based on requestor as the hub of nightlife/dining is south of the property.

Would I recommend restaurant?
NA

Value for price paid?
Good

Overall property rating on a scale from 1 to 10 = 7.5

Very nice review! Did your room have a kitchen/kitchenette?
Also, can you check the links from your pictures, they don't seem to be working and I would love to see them as we are considering this resort for a stay in March...THANKS!

I wrote all that detailed report and you didn't even read it. I so hurt. See below.
You enter, walk a few steps and your in front the bathroom, the next "room" is the bedroom, then finally living room with kitchenette & a wrap balcony.

Sorry the links don't work, I don't what the problem is and I'll check them a little later and correct them. So check back.

Ahhhh, problem realized... those people must be using IE. I am using Firefox and the links don't work... but they do work if I use IE.

But seeing all the banner ads and in-line thread ads, I will be happy to have to cut and paste your links rather then continue using IE another minute. ;)

Great review and good pictures. :) ^

We are currently checked into this hotel, so I'll give my brief first impression and will update throughout as necessary.

The first thing to note is that we were fit into this hotel by a "diamond request" which I've never had to do before. We are using the 175k for 6 night diamond promo to stay here and New Years eve was sold out.

Checked in last night and received probably the smallest room in the hotel (1612), which was still nicely furnished and clean, but somewhat cramped. I would hesitate to pay to be in this room, but if you are in the hotel while full it is manageable (just Mrs. TL2000 and I it should be noted). Called to to nicely request a new room and they said it would not be possible until the next day, which was no problem as we were exhausted.

Moved into room 2*09, which looks exactly like the pictures that Cheap Elite posted. I didn't press any more for a bigger room, because I am fairly sure that they are close to capacity.

Valet parking is still expensive, I am going to scout for new parking tonight.

We were offered free Internet access during our stay as our amenity or 1000 points. I was initially going to take the points because I have a Verizon card, but it does not work well here. I would say the free Internet at $12.95 a day is worth it.

The market on the first floor has all sorts of pizza, sandwichs and coffee for the prices that you would expect. I had a $9 cuban sandwich that was pretty good, but probably not worth $9.

All of the rooms have a kitchenette in them with refrigerator, so we have stocked some food already and plan to get more.

Haven't checked out the pool and spa yet, but will post updates later.

Free continental breakfast coupons for Diamonds are good. My wife and I don't eat a ton for breakfast normally. The orange juice is fresh (I'm an oj snob) and coffee is good (for a hotel, I'm a coffee snob as well) and you can upgrade to a made to order 2 egg, meat (bacon, sausage) , potato and toast breakfast for $4. I did that this morning and it was good. Staff at the breakfast restaurant was very friendly, but somewhat slow this morning. They were very crowded on New Year's morning and 3 people called in sick (or hungover).

Ocean facing balcony is nice and the staff seems friendly and helpful so far.

the differnece between FLL Resort and MIA DT Surfcomber?

I know the actual area surrounding these two hotels are radically different... However, how are the hotels themselves comparatively speaking??

The reason I ask is that the rates for both revenue and points are exactly the same and I am having a tough decision trying to decide which hotel to stay at!

I've just been considering exactly the same question and decided to go with the Fort Lauderdale Resort. From the research I've done (speaking to people, Tripadvisor, etc), it seems like the Fort Lauderdale is much newer and nicer, with larger, better appointed rooms.

For me, the question was - trendy and lively area (South Beach) or more comfortable hotel (Fort Lauderdale).

Staying at the Hilton as we speak, stayed at the DT last year. The rooms are no comparison. The Hilton has spacious light suites, the DT has small dark rooms, but they are ok if you want the SBeach scene. It’s an hour drive from the Hilton to SB. Upgraded without asking, which is always a good thing.

We just got back from this hotel and I have nothing but good things to say. We usually stay at the Westin Diplomat, but because we actually wanted a hotel facing a decent beach we decided to give this place a try. The rooms are wonderful, customer service is amazing, and its close to plenty of restaurants. I was concerned this place would not have poolside service, boy was I wrong. The attendants were always walking around making sure the guests were OK and around 11:30 the set up a poolside bar. I highly recommend this place.
Oh I also kept a copy of the Menu from the Ground Floor restaurant and the room service breakfast. Just in case someone wants to get an idea of what things cost.

I need some advice. I am planning on staying at this Resort next week, 8/14, for 4 nights. As Diamond, what can I expect and does anyone have an e-mail address of a person at the hotel?

I am tempted to book the cheapest room, a $151/night Studio Oceanview. But since an upgrade to a Suite is not guaranteed, I am debating 'springing' for the Oceanview Jr Ste for $170/night.

What do you think?

I'll be there 8/14-8/17 on an award stay. Standard room is 2 queen studio oceanview, but we are holding out for the DIamond upgrade to 1 King 1 BDR suite per the upgrade offer. We could be more sure if we paid $50 to increase the upgrade chance, but I'll hold out thinking I'll get the Diamond upgrade.

I'd pay an extra $19 for the jr. suite--it looks pretty spacious on the web-site.

I don't believe there is self-parking available. Look upthread where there should be some discussion about parking near the hotel.

I don't believe there is self-parking available. Look upthread where there should be some discussion about parking near the hotel. And be aware that the City of Ft. Lauderdale is VERY aggressive about policing its metered street parking. Even as police budgets were being closely scrutinized and trimmed in the wake of lower property tax revenue, additional meter enforcement personnel were recently hired. The justification for the new positions was that "they more than pay for themselves".

Has anyone booked an award night here recently? Wondering as I'm looking at some dates in January, and while it tells me at first there's availability, it then says no availability when I click through. In the meantime, the availability calendar is just blank for all months I look at. I'll call Reservations as hopefully I'm just experiencing technical difficulties, but thought I'd check here first to see if anyone knew anything.

NWstu and cliffgil, any reports on your August stays?

Plus there have been a rash of break ins recently in cars parked in that area on the streets. A co-worker parked for a meeting for 30 minutes. Car broken into and contents (which were out of sight) were stolen.
I assume someone was watching the car.

I recently attended an event at this hotel. What a great hotel and great staff. Everything was well done.

Stayed here for a few nights while doing business in the downtown area. It is about 3 miles from downtown, but there is never any traffic to get to downtown.

I was in a King studio room and found it to be just fine. I had to look sideways to see the ocean. The bathroom was large and the rain showerhead was heavenly.

The $29.50 per day valet was a bit ridiculous. I would have appreciated a self parking lot.

As a diamond I was given to breakfast certs which could be used for a continental breakfast in the main restaurant on the 6th floor or could be used in the list coffee shop/deli on the lobby level. If you used in the coffee shop you could get anything up to $17 in value. Since, I didn't have time for a sit down breakfast I just went and picked up $17 worth of packaged snacks from the deli to share with coworkers.
