I did a search and the results are quite limited. Anyone have any experience with this property? What did you think of it? Do they have an exec. lounge? How do they treat Diamonds?
Hilton HHonors - Hilton Boston/DedhamView Full Version : Hilton Boston/Dedham hhonorman Jul 24, 03, 12:11 pm I did a search and the results are quite limited. Anyone have any experience with this property? What did you think of it? Do they have an exec. lounge? How do they treat Diamonds? dvc_john Jul 24, 03, 1:59 pm Can't really answer your questions, except to say that I was there about a year ago, and it was decent enough then. They were starting a rehab which I assume would be finished by now. They had displays of the new furnishings which looked very nice. apirchik Jul 24, 03, 3:30 pm Stayed there about 2 years ago for a while ( few weeks). It a nice Hilton, quite old in appearence and setup but if it's been renovated it should be better. It has a great sports club inside with raquetball courts and a very nice gym. There is no exec level or lounge. Breakfast is quite good. There are a few suites with large balconies that are pretty nice and are the most you will get as a diamond. As far as location - it is pretty far from anything but has a metro train station within walking distance (train runs every 2 hours or so) and an Amtrak station within 2 miles. dale246 Jul 24, 03, 3:47 pm I was there about 2 months ago for 3 days. The property is kind of old and has an odd lay out. The rooms were somewhat substandard in my opinion, but the gym was above average in terms of the equipment. BeantownFlyer Jul 24, 03, 4:26 pm For the same or less money you can stay at far finer hotels in downtown Boston. Do you need to be near Dedham, MA? For example, Nine Zero is a luxury hotel in Downtown, that has been offering rates as low as $135/nt when booking direct with them or through various websites ( www.ninezero.com (http://www.ninezero.com) ). A check of expedia or another booking service will yield some unheard of rates for summer in Boston - evidence of a very soft hotel market. hhonorman Jul 24, 03, 6:17 pm Thanks for all the input. I need to be near Dedham, that's why I chose this hotel, and to get stay credit and points and whatever perks come with being Diamond. I've got a reservation for $89 a night. It sounds like the hotel has a nice gym. Too bad about no exec. lounge. Hopefully as a Diamond I'll get a decent room. Thanks again. Canarsie Jul 24, 03, 7:20 pm You will think I am absolutely crazy, hhonorman, but before Hilton bought all the Promus hotels (including Hampton Inn) and after Marriott sold the Andover property to Wyndham, I used to stay at the Hilton Dedham to do business in Wilmington (the Ballardvale Street exit off Interstate 93). The commute actually was not that horrible on Interstate 95 (okay, 128), to my surprise. Why Hilton Dedham? Because it was the least-expensive Hilton in the Boston area at the time, although I rarely got a rate less than $100.00. As a Hilton HHonors Diamond member, I never received any room better than a standard room, although the rooms I usually got faced the rear of the hotel, which have a pleasant view of the woods behind this property. There is no Executive Lounge. I agree with virtually all of the comments in the previous posts in this thread. Breakfast is great, and there is usually a space very close by in the parking garage (Caution: watch your step on the concrete steps down to the garage in the winter, as they tend to be icy!), which is convenient when it it cold, raining or snowing. This property is nothing spectacular, but I have always found it clean and comfortable. The fireplace in the lobby is a nice touch in the winter. Go ahead and book your reservation if you will be in the Dedham area. hhonorman Jul 25, 03, 10:39 am Thanks Canarsie. SHADO Jul 25, 03, 9:15 pm Pronounciation for Dedham: Dead Ham hhonorman Jul 25, 03, 9:16 pm I have always pronounced it Dead-um. Motion122 Apr 16, 05, 9:55 pm Any updated stay experiences at this property? MacDaddie Apr 18, 05, 3:17 am Any updated stay experiences at this property? ---------- I was there somewhat recently...if your travelling for business its a solid hotel. Easy to find Excellent gym for a hotel Free Breakfast Free Wi-Fi Free Parking Room I had was good and thats about it. AlanB Apr 18, 05, 7:47 am Was there last weekend and will echo the comments above, along with the following. No Exec floor, but free buffet breakfast offered to Golds/Diamonds. No upgrade to suite as gold, but then not expected either. Avoid rooms that overlook the lobby area, as noise levels can get high if there is a party in one of the ball rooms. Free shuttle to Amtrak Route 128 station, shuttle or short walk (3 blocks) to the MBTA Dedham Corporate Park station for commuter train into Boston proper. Decent restaurant. mikey1003 Apr 18, 05, 10:07 pm I was there about 2 months ago for 3 days. The property is kind of old and has an odd lay out. The rooms were somewhat substandard in my opinion, but the gym was above average in terms of the equipment. Same opinion. I had to lug rollerboard past dining room and banquet rooms to get an "old" suite. Hotel needs renovation. hollyweasel Apr 21, 05, 9:36 am Good morning! Just wondering if anyone has stayed at the Hilton Boston/Dedham (3 Miles from Hyde Park). If so, do they do gold upgrades? Please advise if you get a moment! :) Thank you! Can anyone verify? AlanB Apr 22, 05, 1:03 pm Someone else posted above that the Wi-Fi isn't free? Can anyone verify? The Wi-Fi is not free. It costs $9.95 for a 24 hour period as shown on my bill. DoubleJ Jul 13, 06, 1:11 am This pretty much sums up this property. Not the best..not the worst. Wish I had found this thread earlier (before confirming my upcoming reservations at this property). Still, for the rate reserved, can't really complain. Will report after my stay. eddie1973 Aug 8, 06, 8:17 pm In May, my wife and I stayed for 2 nights during my son's graduation. Given a room with a protruded bed frame that tripped me over during the night and not to mention the water leak at the front door while having a 64-gal container placed there to collect H2O. Told is the only room avail. Wrote once, no response until now: "I apologize for the delayed response. I just received your comments yesterday, and I am very sorry for the inconveniences that you experienced at our property. Two months ago we had record breaking rainfall here that caused massive flooding. During that time, we had a quite a bit of damage to our roof near the elevators on the 4th floor and on the corners of the building. We have had roofing contractors working diligently ever since to locate all of the damage and fix the entire roof. Please excuse the appearance of it, and I again apologize for the look of it. Due to the nature of the leak, it has been very difficult to fix. Unfortunately, we were sold out during the time you were here, and I wish we would have had a another room to move you to when you requested. I believe there is some compensation in order here to make up for the less than satisfactory stay here. Please get back to me and let me know if there is anything I can do to make it up to you." Now it's not like I'll ever go back there. What should I be asking in return, if any? Thanks in advance. kipper Aug 9, 06, 10:02 am Points, or a refund of the room charges for at least one night. afurman Aug 10, 06, 8:38 am I had a couple of issues at this hotel back in June. It took me almost 2 months until I got the hotel to response about issues I had during a stay. In the end they really didn't resolve the issue correctly. I would never stay again at that hotel. Hilton really needs to do something about this hotel and how they response to complaints and handle them. sosafan Aug 15, 06, 5:43 pm What should I be asking in return, if any? Thanks in advance. I'd suggest a one-night refund. I stayed there many times while my daughter was in college in Needham. I had several good stays and also several problems. The worst problem had to do with a receipt, and after 5 calls, they gave me a free night, which I used. But it was convenient and much cheaper than other comparables. donnak Oct 29, 06, 6:47 pm I stayed at this hotel earlier this week for 1 night. The clerk said hello, we have your 'hyatt' number on file. I asked her if her other job is at Hyatt (joking) and she said no, I meant hilton. okay. I asked if there was an executive lounge and she pointed to the regular bar. I asked if I was going to get an upgrade and she told me the hotel was sold out. Hardly saw another soul there. When she handed me my folio with keys, I asked if I would be given complimentary breakfast coupon and she said my rate didn't include it. I mentioned that is a diamond benefit, she checked with someone and gave me coupons for breakfast (which was good actually). The toilet barely worked in the room and I was given a room which was a very, very long walk from the elevator. Will not stay there again. No amenity in the room, no recognition of status. |
