US Airways Dividend Miles - CLT connection time
Is 42 minutes adequate to connect in Charlotte between a PSA/USAirways Express flight and a mainline USAirways flight?
It will be late afternoon on a Saturday so I imagine CLT will be pretty quiet. Thanks.

Might be a bit tight if was PHL and you were going from terminal F to A, but at CLT no matter what gates you have, 42 minutes is plenty. You would be able to connect from an international to domestic flight at CLT in that amount of time under many circumstances.
I would take it unless it was an absolutely have to make the connection kinda situation.

A little tight, but you should make it. They have moving walkways from the express terminal back to B/C terminal. Don't dawdle and you should get to the get just about at the start of boarding.

Ditto for the above. You should make it (pending an on-time arrival into CLT) in time, especially cuz it's not PHL!
Good luck

You will have a long walk from your arrival at D or E to B or C, but you should make it. Now if you arrive E and depart from D, that is a shorter walk. If you arrive D and depart D, even better.

I hate it when I have to do the mad dash from B or C down to E to catch the last flight home after arriving on a delayed flight from PHL.
It's good exercise though.
And those moving walkways do help... when they are actually moving. ;)
I think 42 minutes will be plenty. Most of the time I have a 60 minute connection in CLT and I still have time to pop in the club and eat some mini-muffins before hoofing it on out to the B or C terminal.

I booked a 30 minute connection - forced one that would not display in a legal connection - on a recent Monday morning solely because I did not want to fly in on Sunday night.
USUALLY early morning flights into CLT were early but due to a bit of fog we were on time. We landed at the END of B and my connection was at the END of E. I did not run but I moved quickly (powerwalking) and made it in 23 minutes. I came in on mainline. If I were doing the reverse I would not gate-check anything, make sure it fits into the Express overhead.
Also realize that any slight lateness due to passenger boarding issues or fog etc you may miss it. If it's CRITICAL (like a 1 flight a day to Dublin) I would not risk it.

Hope someone can help me with your suggestion. We are flying from IND to SAV on Dec 30. First flight leaves IND at 8:50am. We currently have a 4 hour layover in CLT.(I didn't schedule it that way, our flights were changed by US several months after I purchased the tickets)Checking the US website, there is a quicker flight to SAV from CLT which would have us laying over only 57 minutes. Based on the time of year with possible bad weather in Indy when we leave, would you go for the shorter layover or stay with the 4 hours knowing any delays on leaving Indy will not affect our connection. TIA
I had a 1-hour layover at CLT on Tuesday, and it was more than enough time to connect....because my inbound flight arrived on time. December 30 is going to be one of the busiest travel days, so I personally would err on the side of caution and take the 4-hour layover, because if you were to miss your connection there is not guarantee US would be able to get you to SAV for days. You'll probably sleep better the night before, too!
Also really depends on your travel schedule and whether or not there are 'backup' flights available in case of a misconnect. If you can't afford to miss the connection, then stick with the long layover - CLT is a nice airport and you can hang out on the rocking chairs (try the upstairs balcony by the USO above the food court for a nice quiet area) or the Club. If things run on time, however, you'll have no trouble making a 57 min connection at CLT.
[Edited to add:] Rereading your post and checking the schedules, there is, indeed a backup flight for CLT-SAV. Assume you are traveling IND-CLT on US1631, arriving 10:23am. There are six CLT-SAV flights for the remainder of the day, the first being US2088 (57 min cx) and the second being US2630 (4 hr cx). So, you have two options: 1) If there are plenty of seats on US2630 (as of now, there are), schedule yourself on US4088 and use US2630 as your backup; or 2) leave your schedule as is and if you get to CLT early enough, go to the gate for US2088 and standby (again, plenty of seats) - free for elites, $25 otherwise.

Thanks for both of your replies. Not sure if we could change our flight now without any charges anyway, just thinking it would be nice to get to Hilton Head Island 3 hours earlier if possible.

Try asking US if you can change without a fee because of the schedule change. Not sure if US has an explicit policy on this, but it's possible with AA at least.

I did just as you suggested. Called US, spoke to a very nice CSR, and she switched our flight from CLT to SAV to the earlier flight for no charge. I'm exstatic knowing now we will only have about an hour layover in Charlotte.:D

Great! Hopefully everything will go smoothly and you'll know what your options are just in case it doesn't!

I agree with the rest, you should be ok at CLT.

Do any of you have any experience with international to domestic connections at CLT?
I'm returning from SJO on a Saturday night in January, connecting to US up to IAD later that night. We're scheduled to get in at 8:47(PM) and are scheduled to depart for IAD at 10:25. How fast is immigration/customs for US citizens? Is this a connection we are going to have to sweat?
Thanks in advance for helping a UA flyer.

42 minutes should be plenty of time to connect in CLT, unless your flight to CLT is significantly delayed. The express flights tend to board a little late and it is no more than a 10 minute walk from the farthest gate in the B terminal to the express terminal.

If your gates are FAR apart, ask for a ride on the beeping cart!!!

Hopefully this will work, but that flight does tend to be late & we get the bags late. Not unusual to miss "a few". How ever the 1025P dept. is a good thing which gives more time,
