Emirates Skywards - Crediting miles for flights BEFORE joining Skywards and pre-crediting for award?

Hello!

Today I'm writing for a friend who is currently somewhere in New Zealand. He has been in Australia and New Zealand since April and flew EK to get there (from Munich). He will fly back to MUC in 2 weeks.

Unfortunately he missed to register for Skywards and so I wonder if it is possible to enroll NOW (while he is still abroad) and still get the miles for the flights MUC - DXB - SYD credited? Does anybody have experience in that? COS is always Coach.

Furthermore, if that above worked out, would it be possible to take:
the miles he will get (in that case) for MUC - DXB - SYD)
+ the miles for the flight back home SYD - DXB - MUC (all in all 20.828, as Skywards-calculator says)
+ 2500 miles "Welcome Bonus" (http://www.skywards.com/Offer_detail.aspx?ID=tcm:136-82013)
+ buying the rest of the miles to have 25.000 miles in the end
to get an upgrade (one-way) between DXB and MUC?

I mean, the ticket is paid. LH allowed me to do that in 2000. I could get the miles for flights to LAX and back "pre-credited" so that I was able to use my miles to have an upgrade from Coach to Business on that very flight.

Does anyone know if that is possible with Skywards as well?

My friend is no member of any program so far. So if the thing with Skywards fails, what would you recommend (he won't fly Emirates & Sri Lankan in near future)? UAL MP or DL?

Thanks for your help!

Threatening an airline with 'never to fly your airline again' just because they won't do something that another airline did for you is just ridiculous.

Your friend should have joined Skywards beforehand and that's it.

You have to earn the miles first, and then the bonuses will kick in usually after the flight has been flown and posted. But honestly, DXB-MUC is too short to really enjoy oneself. Better save it for something else.

Best for you to do is to contact Skywards and see if they will laugh in your face for what you are proposing they do for you. ON top of that, you are not even the member requesting this request.

But you're just someone else...

In all fairness, EK Skywards is the only programme that will probably still give him the miles retrospectively. All others will say "forget it".

Hello!

No one wants to threaten anyone and I also did not write "he will never fly Emirates again when this does not work out". It is just so that he will probably not have the possibility to fly Emirates in near future, so it wouldn't make sense to enroll for Skywards AFTERWARDS as there are practically only 2 partner airlines and some other program would suit him better then, and the programs of DL and UAL are (besides CO, JP and SA) the only ones that have EK as partner. As it would be a pity not to get the miles for such a long flight.

And I'm indeed not my friend myself requesting this as
a) my friend is somewhere on the other side of the world in the countryside without any internet access and
b) no member of this forum.
I also would not have to ask this kind of question as I am member of UAL and would get the miles credited there. So simple.

After the nice welcome in other parts of this forum it is not really nice to read this kind of aggressive answer just when asking a polite question. :(

Still thanks.

I think you misread the post.... he never threatened the airline at all. It was just stated that they won't be flying with Emirates or Sri Lankan in the near future, so the DXB-MUC flight is the only one that he could use the miles for.

Hello!

Hi,

Ignore the other post, it was quite rude.

I understand what you are asking, and I can't see it being a problem. He'll need to register for a Skywards account online at www.skywards.com.

Once the account has been set up, he can access the account and use the 'Claim Missing Miles' option. He'll need the flight details and the booking reference.

He *should* get the first flight bonus and the outward flight miles. However, he won't get the inbound miles until after that flight. Thus, I don't think that he'll be able to get his upgrade unless he buys the other miles.

Cheers,
Rick

I agree :td:

Emirates will allow you to claim miles before joining. From the Skywards FAQ:

Can I claim Miles for travel taken before joining?

Skywards will offer you a 'one-off' credit for travel on Emirates or SriLankan taken up to 60 days prior to joining, providing you can supply the original ticket and boarding cards.

If the 60 day deadline has passed, I would still email EK and ask if they can do it.

Sadly, however, you cannot pre-credit miles.

It may be possible to call EK and explain that he will be getting the upgrade for a flight after the SYD-DXB sector (and therefore claim those miles.) However, I know a few people that have tried this unsuccesfully.

If EK does not give the miles for MUC-DXB-SYD, I would join UA MP and credit the return there. If they aren't going to be flying EK/UL at all, the miles won't be too useful. UA's program has many more partners and (I believe) a more generous program with regards to mileage expiry. You will miss out on the welcome bonus with EK, though.

Cheers

Hello! :)

Thank you very much, DYKWIA and sadiqhassan, that was very helpful! I'll forward your information immediately! ^
Unfortunately the outbound-trip was already in February, so it would be extremely kind of EK to credit the miles for that, although I don't have much hope. But it's worth a try to contact them! :)

In my opinion UA would be also the better option, Skywards would only pay off if the miles can be used already on the flight back.
By the way: as far as I know you can earn miles for MP on all EK-flights, is that correct? Just asking as I remember that in 1998 it was only possible on UA-EK-codeshareflights.

Thanks again for your help! :-:

Hi,

yes, all EK coded and operated flights.

Cheers
