I'm considering breaking a RTW trip in HKG later in the year and have been looking into fares HKG-LON-HKG. There seem to be some excellent business and first class fares based on minimum 2 pax travelling together, valid for up to 12 months.

A few questions:
* I'm not based in Hong Kong - are there any restrictions on non-residents booking these ex-HKG fares?
* Which fare bucket do GF companion fares book into?
* I've never flown GF before, but do fly BA quite a bit. How does their F product compare to BA's?

Thanks in advance :)

I live in Canada but booked on GF ex-HKG on Zuji with no problems. I can't help on the other two points, except to say that HKG gets the 'old' A340s without the updated seats.

HK generally does not have any particular restrictions regarding ticketing for non-HK residents. I have used the following three sources:
1. www.zuji.com (online)
2. www.aerohkg.com (travel agent... very good service and the online site is very user friendly and the list of fares are good, but be ware of the 3% credit card surcharge... if zuji offers the same price, you may want to book zuji because there is no credit card surcharge.)
3. www.tiglion.com (very reliable too, but price may vary a bit)

About GF, they offer lots of attractive F and J fares, but I recommend flying F rather than J, because GF tends to use the older a/c on the HKG route. GF F is okay... not CX or SQ, but is still decent. The new menu is very good. The Middle East to London flight should offer better service and seats.

Enjoy the flight and tell us about it.

I take Gulf all the time. Product is old, but service is fantastic.

I agree completely. I took GF from HKG-BKK at the end of July and we bought business class on zuji. But I asked to upgrade to First and only paid about $25 USD each way. The service was amazing and the staff are great. It was such a wonderful experience and so worth the money, which is not all that much considering the competition. I found the First class seats to be more comfortable than NW World Business Class, so I didn't mind that the seat was old.

Thank you all for the information provided ^

It looks like I'll be flying in first as it sounds a lot better than business class and there's not a huge difference in price.

Excellent news that I can book ex-HKG without any difficulties! :)
