Travel Technology - Need Recommendation for Quad Band Phone to use with Cingular

Long story short. I travel extensively overseas and need a quad band phone. I am with Cingular. Up until last month I had a Razr that worked OK domestically and overseas but it started to wear out. I read reviews that said Nokia had a superior product. I purchased a Nokia 6131 new in box from a reputable seller on ebay. I transferred the SIM from my Razr, gave Cingular the serial number, etc.. and downloaded the necessary software from the Nokia site.

The performance of the phone domestically has been terrible. One out of four calls disconnects. The battery life compared to the Razr is about 25% and several of the functions produce error messages.

Any recommendations? Am I better off just getting a new Razr?

I have a Siemens S46 that works pretty well, you can get an unlocked version on ebay for not much money.

I have an unlocked Samsung SGH-D820 which I use with my Cingular sim. Works fine in the US and abroad. Bought it through Amazon.

I am using the SLVR now on ATT/Cingular and it works great. Haven't had the reboot problems I had with RAZR. Works with my t-mobile sims in germany fine, and the riiing sim internationallly

It would be helpful to provide more information in order to make a recommendation. Do you want a camera built in? Do you use the phone for voice and data or voice only? Is price or size a concern? Do you need an unlocked phone for local sim cards? Do you need/use bluetooth?

If you are interested in a Windows Smartphone, I have a Qtek 8300 which I purchased online unlocked, slid in the SIM, works perfectly, great reception and coverage. Only complaint is the form factor, it is a block, and I prefer a flip phone. They have now released the Qtek 8500 Smartphone which is a flip and I am planning to change to this. I very highly recommend Qtek quality and performance. (The phones are made by HTC, and several companies rebrand them, Qtek, Imate are two).

It sounds like you have a sick Nokia. The battery life of most Nokias is good to amazing, so it might be worth getting it checked out.

I've used both a triband 6682 and a quadband 6270 worldwide. The 6270 is a bit pricey for the features it provides. Both work adequately. Haven't had any problems to date. Battery life is sufficient for my purposes. Both run for about 3.5 days between charges with an average of 2 hrs of talk time per day.

FWIW, my phones have much better battery life in Europe generally and in some places in America than others - especially better than at my home.

I wonder if it because my phone is constantly searching for a signal in some places and has constant connection in others?
