Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - If traveling on J - What does gold do for you?

I have Gold status at MPC. If I always fly on a J ticket, I really do not see any benefits to Gold Status. With the J ticket I can check in and use the Business Class lounges. I know there is priority on a wait list, but on the LAX-HKG I rarely have a space problem. I do not fly enough within 12 months to make Diamond. Am I missing something or there is some advantage to Gold when flying Business?

If you always fly J on all OneWorld airlines then the only major advantage is the extra baggage allowance on CX.
It does also give you access to the AA lounges in the US if flying there on AA (you wouldn't automatically get Admirals Club access even if flying domestic F on AA).
It does also give you access to the AA lounges in the US if flying there on AA (you wouldn't automatically get Admirals Club access even if flying domestic F on AA).
Ditto if you flying QF domestic J. Your OW Status will get you lounge access your ticket wont, unless your connecting to an international J flight.
If you always fly J on all OneWorld airlines then the only major advantages are:
- extra baggage allowance on CX
- guaranteed seat at 72 hours notice in full-fare J on CX
It does also give you access to the AA lounges in the US if flying there on AA (you wouldn't automatically get Admirals Club access even if flying domestic F on AA).
Not according to CX. Is this a unpublished benefit?
MPC Gold Benefits (http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_INTL/ffp/mpo/benefits/gold)
MPO Benefits Chart (http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_INTL/ffp/mpo/benefits)
I decided that it wasn't worth it any more to be a MPO member as someone who flew J 99% of the time and switched over to AA this year. Previously I had been averaging around 80k-100k club miles.
I signed up for the Plat Challenge immediately and got Sapphire benefits within the first two weeks. Since AA awards 1.5 EQPs for premium classes (1.25 for J on CX) and EXP is only 100k miles, I will likely qualify for EXP this year.
The Gold benefit is a guaranteed Y seat in any subclass, when booking 72 hrs in advance.
The other benefit is being higher up in the queue for getting a free upgrade to F class, should CX find they need to upgrade people.

Not according to CX. Is this a unpublished benefit?Ooops sorry - my mistake. I knew that Y was 24hrs as Diamond and 72hrs as Gold so from memory I wrongly assumed the same for J.

A bit off-topic...
If I am MPC gold member and if I travel on QF domestic economy class, do I have assess to their domestic lounge? And can I bring one guest also?
Thanks

You can definitely get access to the QF lounge. Not sure about inviting a guest.

[QUOTE=traveler18]I have Gold status at MPC....QUOTE]
unlike me , who was going to be sarcastic until I read post#4.
I would have said "well what do you want gold to do for you? :D
on a more helpful note, neither your profile or OP gives any info about your locale or NON cx traveling patterns. you might want to consider amending your profile to include,at a minimu, home airport. ( the more info u provide, the better the advice you'll get on FT)
Do you Fly AA?
Are you U.S. based?
if you can make explat on points , then i think free domestic upgrades on AA and 8 evips beat an occasional (speculative) op up to F any day hands down.

You can access the lounge + 1 guest to the QP. (as per Oneworld Rules) I never had problems taking my colleauges.
It doesn't matter what the OP's travel plans are - AA doesn't care if you've never flown with them in your entire life and you have no plans of flying them in the future. They will happily award EXP status to people who have 100,000 mi/pts or 100 seg on OW airlines. I would believe that quite a number of MPO Golds would make EXP easily.
The "4 segment rule" to qualify for elite status is not enforced. I know that both from posts on the AA forum and from the fact that they sent an email about qualify for PLT when I passed 50k pts.

Thanks for all the tips. I live in California and also have lifetime Gold on AA. I have considered earning the CX miles on AA to make Exec Platinum rather than MP. However most of the time I use the earned Asia Miles to upgrade from J to F (40K per segment). The almost 20K I earn on the RT from LAX to MNL complemente by some transfers from Starwood AMEX. I prefer the Asia Miles for this reason.
MPC gold does not allow entry to Admiral club on domestic flights, and on international flights, the J ticket includes them anyway. But I still see no valuable benefit to being MPC Gold in my case.

One thing to keep in mind -- if you fly cheap economy on CX but credit to AA -- it will earn no miles! Only Y and a couple of other not-deeply discounted economy classes earn miles on AA program.
But if you are flyiing CX on the high fare classes and make AA EXP -- you get the status bonus on the CX flights (which is a lacking on the MPC program). This is a pretty huge difference!

Actually NO. Any Oneworld Sappire (eg. CX MPO Gold) does allow AC entry in the US (for domestic flights).

It isn't. QF Elite's can access the QC when flying JQ but as far as I am aware there is no access for OW elites. ckbun must have gotten lucky.

This would be great if I could use AA miles to upgrade my CX flights from Business to First, but CX or AA do not allow this.

Thank god they don't allow it, imagine then how hard will it be to get U and Z Class. As i said before it is highly unfair for CX to absorb all the substandard airline's liability.
