Asia - Dental clinics in Thailand - anyone have experience with Grace or Fortune?

My son needs his wisdom teeth extracted and my dental insurance pretty much only covers routine cleanings and X-rays. They haven't broken through (and probably never will) so he needs to see an oral surgeon and the bill in the US would be about $2300.

-OR-

We can go to Thailand and get this done for a few hundred dollars plus stay a few extra weeks and have a vacation too. I've had friends who've had dental work done at Grace Dental Clinic in Chiang Mai and have been very happy with the work and I've also heard good things about Fortune Dental Clinic there. I've been treated at Bumrungrad for other things, but notice they also have an oral surgery department.

SO ... I'd be interested in hearing from folks here who have used either of these dental clinics or if anyone has others to recommend.

Thanks.

I went to this dentist in Bangkok however it was only for Laser Teeth Whitening and I wouldn't use this as a basis for evaluating how they would do on teeth extraction.

The clinic did a reasonable job for much less than I would have spent in the US (their prices are available on the website). If there was anything I was disappointed with, it would be instructions and treatment for postprocedure pain. When the time comes for a second treatment, I won't have any problem going back to them.

I think for more serious procedures like extractions, I would want a larger institution that would be ready for complications that might, but probably wouldn't, happen post surgery. I would go with Bumrungrad. They are respected and have a large staff support you.

You should check out the Health, Body & Medicine (http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showforum=23) forum on thaivisa, maybe the Bangkok/Chiang Mai forums too. Plenty of referrals there.

My dentist is at Bumrungrad, but I just get check-ups/cleanings every six months, so nothing too specialized.

Thanks for that. Several people there seem to agree with what I've heard - that Grace is top notch.

I just had a root canal treatment at the dental Clinic in Sukhumvit Soi 49. Very professional, good equipment and doctors studied in the US, Japan and Germany. But they are on the expensive side in Thailand. All doctors are specialized, and only do one job. So for the final filling I needed another appointment with the dentist who does the fillings. That might be a setback if you are short with time.
Dental Hospital

The root canal treatment was 6000 Baht not including the x-ray and final filling.
(850 for panoramic X-ray, 1000 for the filling, and around 150 for a normal x-ray)

I had a gold crown done in Chiang Mai a few days before Songkran (Apr) this year. 10,000 baht and finnished 4 days after impressions.

Office was by Sompetch Market, across the street from Ridges and just up from Tapae Gate. I can easily get the name and number from a friend.

I just had a highly impacted wisdom tooth removed by an oral surgeon at BIDC (Bangkok International Dental Center) http://www.bangkokdentalcenter.com. They have a large clinic and prices listed on their website. My difficult extraction was $87 which was done by an outside specialist. I would suggest trying them.
