I am flying into Bozeman next month after Labor Day for a trip to Yellowstone. I have a reservation for a Subaru Outback or similar. Anyone here have experience with what is actually on the lot in Bozeman? I happen to like the Subaru so if I can actually get that I'll be happy but if there is something else interesting I should aim for I'm all ears. Will be just two of us on the trip so size isn't the most important consideration.

Well, the last time I rented from BZN was in September 2004 so I'll tell you what I remember but I'm sure the landscape has changed since.

The car I got was a brand spanking new Mazda 3. From what I remember the small Hertz portion of the lot had a bunch of midsize/full imports (i.e. Mazda, Toyota, etc.) along with a bunch of midsize/full domestics. I don't recall seeing many SUVs or bigger vehicles, which I assumed I was going to see. Perhaps they were all rented out.

Not sure if this helps.

Not sure about hertz but Thrifty and Avis lots had plenty of SUVs on memorial day. I ended up getting one for $25/day.

Hertz and most others in BZN are franchised and PCs did not work at all.

On a side note from now on I'll fly into JAC instead of BZN - it felt much closer to old faithful area.

Good point about the franchise location thing. I hate franchise locations.. very anal and stingy.

As for JAC vs. BZN, many people have the same opinion... they prefer JAC.

We would have flown into JAC but we burned miles for the flight and we couldn't get from here to JAC with the miles.
