got an offer of a rate of $149 midweek,$179 weekend with $50 in house credit and $20 free play.
Ummmm-sorry but the marketing folks at the Cassurina are just not very bright.
$80 bucks is a lot midweek during summer and $109 weekends is not so hot either for this 3rd class property.
Thanks but no thanks.

If you generally eat in the hotel it really isn't a bad deal for this hotel. It still is expensive for Vegas in the dead of the summer, especially when you can stay at the Aladdin for $49, but the Westin and its heavenly bed is nice change of pace since I am in Vegas at least one overnight per week

Sounds phenomenal compared to most of their package rates. Compare your offer to the Two of Hearts Getaway Package (aka Sweetheart Getaway Package). $339 gets you a room, breakfast buffet for two, a bottle of champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries. Given that there are other packages for about $169 (and the package that you discussed for $149) that also include breakfast, the champagne and strawberries are costing you more than $170. (Of course, you do earn more Starpoints.)

This Westin rarely has packages that work out for me. If they'd just cut to the chase and offer me a worthwhile rate on their slower nights, I'd stay there sometimes. Even if I did plan on room service there, I couldn't expense a room charge of $149 when I can get the Aladdin, a Hilton property, or my negotiated corporate rate at the Westin for less. Our accountants would have trouble dealing with a room/food package rate on the expense report.

This thread title could use some clarification, by the way. There are two properties named Westin Casuarina.
1. The Westin Casuarina Las Vegas Hotel, Casino & Spa
2. The Westin Casuarina Resort & Spa (Grand Cayman)
As recently discussed in the Westin St Maarten thread, these Westin Casuarina properties are among the dozen+ Starwood properties owned by Columbia Sussex.

All that said, I disagree with the OP about whether or not this is always a bad rate. There are some dates that these prices would be very good. Not every night is available for cheap at the Aladdin. Some weekends for $179 could be a relative bargain. And the Westin is still better furnished than most Vegas properties, IMO. (But their ability to upgrade to suites is very limited.) On the only night that I searched in Sept, this rate at $149 looked like the best public rate for this property. The Aladdin actually wasn't any better for that particular night.
