Hiya - wonder if you guys who fly SAA often can advise whether is there a vast difference in service etc. between the 747-400 flight from LHR - JNB - I heard that even the amenities pack is the same isn't it?
Thanks!

I haven't been on SAA First, but apparently they use the same seat as LX First.
If I compare that to the SAA biz seat on the 747, the LX seat was a lot better. The 747 biz seat is basically an old style seat. However, they removed a lot of rows and modified the seat so it reclines to a flat bed. However, the seat was not built for this, so it doesn't feel as nice as on their 346. It is quite long though and I (at 186 cm) could easily fit there in my entirety.
Don't know about the F amenity kit, but the kit in C is very nice.

Dont SAA also fly the A346 on one of their two daily flights from LHR-JNB? If so I would go for business on the A346. Much better than the 747

Only 744's on this route.
The F seat is significantly better than the J one. Plus the layout ensures aisle access for all seats.
Apart from the seat difference (or rather suite, in F) you also get:
- separate, quieter, F lounges in LHR and JNB
- kerbside check-in in JNB (with escort passed the impossibly long immigration and security queues, I think)
- supposedly better quality food and drink
- some gaudy PJ's
In the end I would decide based on price since either cabin is quite comfortable. Service can be hit or miss in both cabins.
