With perhaps 8 hours in Cleveland, what, in your opinion, must one see or do?
I am interested in all kinds of activities, so please do not feel you need to ask for my interests, etc. before suggesting stuff.
If it matters, the day would be Tuesday, Aug 8th, 2006.
I already know about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
What else would be worthwhile checking out in Cleveland?
thank you

The R&R HOF might just take up all your time. It's a very large, intricate museum, with a lot of hands-on-type exhibits. We spent five hours there and it wasn't enough.

The HOF is easily worth a whole day. I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed.
There is an old US Navy submarine moored just east of the HOF on the lakefront which was fun to tour.
I did not see anything else worth visiting in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Zoo is nice, I really like the Rain Forest. The Rock Hall can easily take up your time. University Circle has a lot to see, including the Crawford Auto Museum. Well, I could keep coming up with ideas for you, but it would help to know some of your interests. (and what time of day, that will make a difference.)

I did not see anything else worth visiting in Cleveland.
Obviously you didn't walk around. Cleveland is huge, but has a very compact downtown. Right now there is lots of construction in the CBD with Euclid Avenue be completely redone for sidewalk to side with for the BusRapid transit project and lots of new housing construction....but you missed....As a person who hasn't lived in Cleveland very long i've been exploring different neighborhoods......Here's what you missed..
You can start at Tower City (http://www.towercitycenter.com/) the center of Downtown Cleveland. Tower city is right in the middle of the Warehouse district and the Gateway District. In the Warehouse district you'll find great restaurants, Clubs, unique retail establishments, and pretty people. In the Gateway District you can eat at various restaurants along East 4th, check out an Indians game or attend an event at Gund Arena. You can also check out the beautifully restored Grand and Colonial arcades and the specialty shops inside.
the Flats
Visit the East and West Banks of the Flats, the worlds most unpredictable playground in its heyday. This district is turning into a residential neighborhood so clubs and bar are not as busy or crowded as they were at the beginning of the decade but the area is still a must see. The view of the city from the Flats is spectacular.
Ohio City area
Hangout in Ohio City (http://www.ohiocity.com/), home of The West Side Market, one of the nations oldest markets; the Internationaly known, Great Lakes Brewing Co (http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/). and dozens of great restaurants and store. On the Northern end of Ohio City is a sizeable gay community. The neighborhood next to Ohio City is Tremont
Tremont (http://www.restoretremont.com)
some amazing architecture and cool cool restaurants and beautiful victorian area homes. While you're in the area visit the world famous Cleveland Zoo (http://www.clemetzoo.com/).
Both of these neighborhoods are dense, popular and touristy...and with that comes bad parking so take the Red Line Rail to W.25 Street or a taxi (can't be more than $5/6 dollars one way) to avoid trying to find parking.
the Playhouse Square area.
Playhouse Square (http://www.playhousesquare.org/) has dozens of theatre options in the most beautiful theatres I've ever set foot in. Check out a performance in one of the fabulous theatres. Playhouse Square ranks among the top five theatre districts in North America and Playhouse Square its self is second Only to the Lincoln Center as America's second largest performing arts center.
the Sterling/Payne/ChinaTown Area
One of the largest china towns in the country and home to lots of funky artists and art galleries. Slyman's deli is definitely a must - just make sure you havent eaten prior to going! and there is also a growing gayborhood in this area as well.
There is also a cool arts community, with in this area. You'll find lots of artsy people, restaurants, galleries and shops. Asian Plaza heart of Cleveland's fast growing Asian Village (AKA China Town) where you can have a great meal at Bo Loong for great dim sum or No. 1 Pho for Vietnamese.
Univercity Circle (http://www.universitycircle.org)
You can spend days in University Circle link where you will find the world's best museums! The world famous Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve University, the Lakeview Cemetery (http://www.lakeviewcemetery.com/index.asp), The Cleveland Playhouse and Karamu (http://www.karamu.com/), the nation's oldest African-American cultural arts institution, you can stroll in cultural gardens and tour Severance hall the home of the Cleveland Orchestra. There is a lot to see in do in this area, so be prepared to spend awhile!
Adjacent to University Circle is Little Italy (http://www.littleitalycleveland.com/), Shaker Square (http://www.shakersquare.net/), the oldest shopping district in Ohio and the second oldest in the nation which is adjacent to the Larchmere (http://www.larchmere.com/) District with its great collection of antique stores and unique restaurants and visit the Buckeye neighborhood originally home to the largest Hungarian population outside of Hungary.
Going southeast, you can visit Slavic Village with its rich Czech and Polish history.
In the North Coast Harbor Area, you can catch a Browns game, visit the Great Lakes Science Center, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, William G. Mather, Goodtime III cruise ship or the International Women's Air & Space Museum and be sure to visit the Malls our downtown urban park overlooking North Coast Harbor. You can shop at the Galleria at Erieview. Also look out for the Annual Cleveland Air Show, the Cleveland Grand Prix, as well as various festivals and parades.
