Just a bit of trivia.

The Aussie Government has chartered Lebanon's MEA 3 A330's to fly home stranded Aussies from Larnaca, Cyprus. If you're lucky enough you'll see them on the tarmac at SYD. There is one there today(26/7).

Anyone been able to find any articles or pics re above?

I have NEVER seen as many Aussie items of clothing (outside of sporting venues) on a group of refugees as this week! Everyone is (obviously) thinking of those left behind and praying for their safety.

No gratuitous mentions of Gulf Air flights, following the earlier offers? :confused:

Thinking of you all in the war zone, and hoping things improve, somehow. ;)

My uncle and aunt arrived yesterday after 4 days on the road. From Beirut via Cyprus, Thailand and Perth to Syd!!!

We were "not happy Jan" when we saw up on the arrivals board an MEA flight-ME1009 direct from Larnaca arrving two hours after their QF charter from Perth! We are extremely grateful though they were home safely...direct flight would have been nice though in comparison :)

My uncle and aunt, although elderly and exhausted appeared quite positively from customs and my aunt clutching a pair of Rosary Beads very tightly, had nothing but praise and respect for the way they were handled and all they were afforded throughout the entire journey by The Aussie Government..VERY proud Aussies today let me tell you.

GF has also won high praise in the region for its immediate response and diversion of aircraft. Its endorsing of ME and WY tickets was also warmly recieved indeed!

Lets hope it all ends soon. :cool:
