(Believe I posted this in the wrong forum first time around) To what frequent flyer program would I have to transfer MR points if my goal is to get an award ticket on Austrian Airlines from JFK to VIE? First timer here, and all the alliances, partners, etc. don't make sense to me yet
Austrian Airlines is a member of the Star Alliance. I would investigate transferring to Aeroplan or ANA...

...but don't transfer anything until you have sufficient points to claim an award -and- have verified that the award is available through the specific program. In other words, just because Austrian has award seats available to its own members is no assurance they are available to Aeroplan or ANA members.

Thanks! I went with ANA. This is making a wee bit more sense to me now. I went ahead and linked my new ANA number to my Amex account on the website.
Looks like I've got a phone date with ANA. Wish me luck with availability

You can check ALL Star Alliance availability on the ANA website. All you need to do is sign up for the ANA FF scheme. The BMI board swears by this tool, as it lets us find the seats we want and then call BMI and basically tell them the planes we require.

Even better! I just checked this tool out and it is great. If I can go through this whole process without having to subject myself to hold muzak on the telephone I will be happy as a clam.
