Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Just short of 60K mark, will they be tolerant?

On the 31st of July my qualification period will end. I am falling just short of the 60K mark, with about 58K banked in. My sectors count will be 32 (8 short).
I have flown a mix of Y and C (but mainly Y regional) and I live in Hong Kong.
Can I expect some leniency from MPC, or will they go by the book.

Might still be able to squeeze in a MR, but dont know if I should make the expense.

Three things could happen:

(1) They go by the book, and you're SOL.
(2) They bump you anyway even though you're short a couple K.
(3) You call them up and ask them for a bit more time (say, 1 month), and they agree.

I've had (2) and (3) happen to me ((2) against my wishes, actually), so you may be OK.

i called before too, but they refused to give (2) to me, alternatively, offered (3) to me..ahhaa
but saying, if extending the period, u've to call them back once u've got enuff mileage (A MUST TO GET THE EXACT MILES REQUIRED), and at such point, the computer will still auto re-calculate ur miles from ur actual end of period, just give them a buzz, and they will send u ur SL/GO/DM card right away..

wonder how to get IN card?

If you have to ask, then it's not for you.

just want to know... in what circumstances would (2) be undesirable?

When they bump you up to Gold far ahead of your qualification expiration and resetting your qualification start/end date (which they did to me), meaning that I have to fly the 60,000 miles needed to maintain the new Gold status much sooner than expected, while trying to simultaneously requalify for AA EXP. That's when it is undesirable.

In my situation, they did (2) to me, but then when I called, they gave me (3), a couple of extra months so that I could requalify for Gold after the end of my original requalification period.

Oh ok - I thought (in the context of the OP) this meant that they would give you a 'grace' renewal at the end of the normal qualification year -- I can't see how that grace can ever be bad... but being moved around earlier than expected can cause problems with planning....

why should they make an exception for you - are you going to change their lives, makes CX a much better company to work for and make life for the passengers so much better. NO

Best bet is fly the miles get the status if it means so much to you :p :p - or spend time on FT .....ing about it.

I am curious... how did it go? Did you get comp renewal or cut a deal or what? :)

IN is almost untouchable nowadays, i think you may need at least flew 1M miles with them before consideration. or you have to be the real VIP to them, eg key decision maker of big corp.

Flying 1M miles is not a prerequisite for IN & won't affect your chances to get IN.

As mentioned I fell just about 2000 miles short and after the 31st I didnt actually have the time to call them up and talk about a deal or something. However on the 2nd of August I already received and enveloppe and it stated that I had been granted an extension of my status for another year despite falling short because of my loyalty. Pretty nice!

I do not know what standard they use to reach this conclusion. I had actually flown well over 60K miles, but some fares do not give Asiamiles, thus no MPC status miles :(
My flights were mostly shorthaul, with only 1 long haul and of course long haul is a more efficient way of achieving status. I also had a mix of C and Y. Another point is that I live in HK, so I do not have the change to connect through HKG, so I conside 32 sectors quite a lot.
Anyway: Gold/Sapphire for another year, Thanks MPC!

good on you. i hope they will treat me the same too.. i have a new job and all regional (< 4hours) can only go on economy. with only max 2 long haul to europe each year, i shall, sadly, close below gold.
