Progress and decline are always wrestling with one another, and in the case of air travel, decline seems to have an advantage lately.
I can live without the free peanuts, but I'd kind of like to get where I'm going, which is generally the point of a transportation system. Every summer we visit my mother in Eastern New Mexico. Our usual path is to fly to Dallas on American Airlines then switch to its commuter line, American Eagle, which takes us to Lubbock in the Texas Panhandle. From there we rent a car.
The air part of this year's trip was more challenging than usual.
