Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - In Town Check-in (HK)

I am looking at the MPC membership guide and it says that one of the benefits is:
"In Town Check-in"
"Allows members to check in early for their next day flight at Hong Kong and Kowloon Airport Express Train Stations"
Does this mean I can check in without buying a ticket on the AEL? Has anyone tried this? How do you get into the check in area at the station without actually buying a AEL ticket?
IF you have to buy an AEL ticket -- you get the intown check in automatically! So this isn't really a benefit for MPC members then!
I think it means that MPC members can check in the day before their flight at Airport express station... Maybe in town check-in is not available for the general public the day before? Never tried to check in one day earlier, so dunno...

I've checked in the day before on a Qantas flight so this isn't a extra MPC perk....

For a number of airlines, including CX, you can check in using the in-town check in at either Hong Kong or Kowloon Airport Express stations.
The only critierion is that you purchase an Airport Express Station ticket or use your Octopus card and use the AIrport Express service.
Of course, you can always forfeit the Airport Express ticket, which costs $100 O/W from HK, and $70 from Kowlooon. The Octopus ticket will deduct the fare immediately, as you enter the ITCI...
I have always used it especially if I have an early flight next day.
The only exception is SFO, LAX, and JFK bound flight (CX 880/2/4, 872, 888, 830) for security reasons, but if you are like flying CX to NRT, and the connect to AA to US... you can use the ITCI.

So then the MPC membership guide is a bit misleading since it isn't a MPC perk at all...

I'm confused - I have searched through the MPC Membership Guide ( http://downloads.cathaypacific.com/mpo/mpoguide_en.pdf ) and the relevant pages on the website and I can find no reference to the Airport Express. Please could you tell us exactly what document you are reading?

The little book I got when I joined MPC. Chinese on one side, English on the other. Airplane layout guides in the middle as well as the Terms and Conditions (English only).

If that was a while ago then probably it's simply out of date. The current version is the one I linked to above.
There is normally a "The Club" check-in counter at the Airport Express check-in, but I'm reasonably sure you need an AEL ticket to access it.
