Just a few quick comments after bring in Ireland for a week with a spiffy new portable GPS system.

* It is indeed a totally portable system -- meaning that you don't want to leave it in sight when you are out of the car.

* I was unimpressed with the mounting setup -- the arm would not hold the GPS well (it stayed to the windscreen via suction, but the unit itself would dropp on the other end of the arm -- we had to set it so it rested on the dash)

* reasonably decent to use, but lacks a feature I've gotted used to in my cars with satnav -- the ability to just chose a city center and drive to it. Especially in Ireland, with small villages, I'd just prefer to say "go to the center of Bruree" than have to find an address (which, in the small villages, can be a massive pain in the behind!).

It did have a good knowledge of even all the little backroads. However, I found that it weighted most roads equally for travel time -- whether they be a tiny backroad or an N-road.

That said, in Ireland, it's really most useful when you are navigating about Dublin City centre itself -- beyond that, I'd say it's not too useful in Ireland.
