Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - How strict is CX lounge about bringing guests to lounge?View Full Version : How strict is CX lounge about bringing guests to lounge? krisflyer Jul 20, 06, 12:25 pm my friend is just a GREEN member, and i m silver, is it possible to access to lounge at HKIA together, as we r travelling togehter, on Y class? are they strict on that? kaka Jul 20, 06, 1:54 pm model answer from us.... ask nicely when you arrive the wing/pier =) Has anyone here had a negative reply? Guy Betsy Jul 23, 06, 11:19 am SL members travelling in Y on CX have no ability to invite a guest into the lounge. And YES, CX is very strict on that. YVR Cockroach Jul 23, 06, 4:19 pm Ask nicely. It doesn't hurt. A few years ago, I as a OW sapphire travelling CX BC got my father into the lounge. he was travelling SQ. Guy Betsy Jul 24, 06, 7:18 am OW Sapphire is one notch above MPC Silver. StarG Jul 24, 06, 9:13 am They seem to be pretty strict on lounge access for SL (no guest allowed). Wongo Jul 24, 06, 9:48 am I have a party of 4 traveling with me next week. I'm sure when I flash my card they will throw them all out less one. I hope someone else in the group has CX status! shawbridge Jul 24, 06, 9:54 am I don't have direct experience, but my experience may be relevant. I am an AA Platinum and was using AAdvantage miles to take my family from the US to Hong Kong and after a few days to Bali, taking advantage of a special low miles offer to most places CX flew. Apparently, with my OneWorld status and my ticket type, I was only allowed to bring one guest. At each lounge, I asked to bring in my family. In Denpasar, there was no issue at all. Twice in Hong Kong, I explained that my kids (who were 7 and 10 or 8 and 11 at the time) were extremely experienced travelers and were polite (despite their half-American heritage?). Both times, they let me know that they were making an exception and let my kids in. The kids behaved wonderfully, the lounge is probably the best in the world, and all was right with the world, at least at that point. The staff at CX is generally terrific. So, the relevant part of the experience is asking politely, recognizing that they don't have to do anything for you. Good luck. novacatz Jul 24, 06, 9:46 pm Tried to bring in a guest at Beijing and Sydney. Got rejected twice as a Silver. Was polite and friendly and got a polite and friendly no... :) Silver is equivalent to OW Ruby and has no OW lounge rights. As I understand it allows you access to CX lounges but not to OW lounges. As there is only a QF OW lounge in SYD I think the QF lounge dragons did the right thing. Its still better than how QF treat their own silver (Ruby's) members, the only benefit being an extra 10kgs, you get business check-in but thats a OW benefit anyway. number_6 Jul 25, 06, 11:22 am I think novacatz was saying that a guest was not allowed into the lounge at SYD, but that the silver member was allowed in. Which is consistent with the rules that CX has. TerryK Jul 25, 06, 7:43 pm I just witnessed this at the Pier. A MPC Sliver member tried to bring his wife in; was politedly adivsed that MPC Silver has no guest privilege but they would be happy to let her in by deducting 7000 Asiamiles from his account. novacatz Jul 25, 06, 8:15 pm I think novacatz was saying that a guest was not allowed into the lounge at SYD, but that the silver member was allowed in. Which is consistent with the rules that CX has. Yes -- that's right. I was allowed in fine. My father was travelling with me -- so I tried to have a freebie lounge pass issued with a nice polite request to the check in staff. I know I was asking for a bit extra -- so I asked with a smile and didn't put my expectations too high. So yes, CX is rather strict on this -- If you only lowly silver -- you probably won't be able to get into the lounge... bensyd Jul 25, 06, 9:10 pm I think novacatz was saying that a guest was not allowed into the lounge at SYD, but that the silver member was allowed in. I'm not very familiar with the MPC rules but do they allow you to access the QF Club in Sydney even if you are only OW Ruby? novacatz Jul 25, 06, 9:44 pm I'm not very familiar with the MPC rules but do they allow you to access the QF Club in Sydney even if you are only OW Ruby? I don't know what the arrangement between QF and CX is -- (and I wasn't sure if I would be allowed in actually) -- but the check in agent, -without- prompting, issued me an invitation card for the QF club lounge in SYD. I guess it is because CX don't operate their own lounge in SYD so whenever a CX J class person or OW travelling on CX wants to use the lounge the QF club lounge acts as the CX lounge... bensyd Jul 25, 06, 10:54 pm I don't know what the arrangement between QF and CX is -- (and I wasn't sure if I would be allowed in actually) -- but the check in agent, -without- prompting, issued me an invitation card for the QF club lounge in SYD. Yes someone travelling in CX J I could understand being given a pass, but a lowly OW Ruby :D thats the part I dont understand why would QF want them filling up their lounge |
