i tried to do a search for this put couldnt find anything. I am planning on taking a trip form HKG-LHR. i am trying to figure out if i should go BA or CX. if someone could let me know the pro's and cons of each airline that would be great. One thing to keep in mind is that i have trouble sleeping even on the lie flat seats so if someone could tell me about the comfort of BA sleeper seats and if they actually go down the full 180. thanks

If sleep is the most important thing and you need a lie flat to sleep (and you are in business class) then go with BA. Otherwise CX wins hands down - better IFE, better service,...

But if you can, go for CX F - lie flat seat, duvet, caviar, Krug, etc...

It sounds like you are asking about J and not F (F has been extensively discussed before, and both BA and CX have lie-flat seats that are similarly comfortable, only CX has 12 seats while BA has 14 seats in the same square footage).

The BA J seat is fantastic if you meet its parameters -- short and narrow. Very comfortable for those up to 5'10" and bearable up to 6'. Torture for anyone taller than that. Also as a seat it is OK but not as comfortable as most other J seats. The CX J seat is one of the earliest designs for lie-flat but not horizontal seats (BA is horizontal, as is VS -- all others are at an angle). The angle is needed to make the seat longer than the pitch between rows. Being early in installing this generation of J seats means that CX is not as good as the seats that came later (QF and IB for example).

For LHR-HKG in F I would pick CX. In J I would pick QF (much nicer than BA as a seat, and with better food). If sleeping was high priority and you are under 5'10" then the BA J seat makes a great bed and would be preferred.

While I agree that QF's seats are nice, you have to remember the 0740~ departure from HKG. Not a flight I would want to take IMO.

However I do believe you can take QF's return flight that departs ex LHR at around noon on a BA ticket (JSA).

However lack of JSA has no impact on codeshares (it does affect WP access to the arrivals lounge at LHR when not flying in J/F, for example, little things like that which are irrelevant for most people).
