Hertz - Emailed coupon codes need to be printed?

Rented last weekend from Hertz at AVP (Scranton, PA) airport. Used a $25 off weekend rental coupon. When I returned the car, the desk agent quoted me a rate that did not include the coupon, even though I had reserved with the PC code and my home printout showed it.

When I asked the agent about the discount I had on the reservation, she looked perplexed and asked if I had a coupon or something. I'm unaware of the need to print these things out, figuring that if Hertz emails me a PC to use, I can use type it in.....

Any case, I got the discount with the same PC code I used to book noted on the receipt. So I am wondering why the agent looked confused when I returned the car.....it should have all showed up in her system, right?

I occasionally get this from an agent. I just say "It's an online coupon for X." I point out that the PC begins with a 9. That has always worked so far.

If the PC begins with a 1, you need the original certificate. Those are typically the standalone free days, free entire weekends, etc.

I print the webpage and attach to the confirmation page. In case the return agent doesn't see the online coupon on their record (and it happens a lot to me), I have proof.

Thanks for the replies. What was odd is that the agent claimed to have no record of the coupon, but she said she'd manually input it. Without giving her the code, she got the exact PC that I had on record.

Given that there are likely tons of coupons in the system, it's surprising that somehow she was able to recover the same one....odd

The last two times I returned the car I had to explain that the PC#was a clickthrough via marriott.com.
It does add a few seconds to the transaction.
