Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Can anyone compare CX J to Air NZ J for HKG-AKL ?

In another thread, there was a comparison of CX vs SQ, largely in F.
I recently met friends who have tried the new J class for Air New Zealand HKG_AKL and say their seats are really great - I checked their website and it is 79.5" and they do not have First Class. Neither does CX have F for AKL-HKG. Just wondering if anyone has tried it and have any input? I can imagine that their new seats are better than CX's J class and that the food and service cannot compare, or maybe similar.
Any insight?

I've not flow NZ J with their new seats but it is licensed from VS so it is the identical seat, and I have flown VS. The seat is an F suite type seat, but very different from any other seat around -- with corresponding good and bad points. The seat flips over to the bed side, which has a mattress. So it is much better as a bed than any other seat which merely reclines to become flat. There is of course a price to be paid for this opulence: extremely narrow coffin-like suite which is not for those with claustrophobia. It is much better as a bed than as a seat (but good enough to be competitive as a seat). It is without question the best J seat in the sky -- better than BA, IB, LH, etc. (VS, NZ and AC are the only airlines in the process of installing these seats ... none has their entire fleet converted yet (AC is still working on its first aircraft)). As for NZ food/service, it was pretty good in the past and I would presume it is still good. NZ should smoke CX J on this route (CX does have the advantage of better lounges at both ends, both AKL and HKG).

NZ is pretty close to completing conversion of 747s, only 1 to go which is currently being done I think. All the new 777s have the suite, leaving only 767s without. There has been no announced plan to convert 767s, but these are now limited to south pacific (and LAX via islands), Perth and other trans tasman services so easily identified.

I disagree that QF lounge at AKL (which CX uses) is better than NZ lounge, but agree CX lounges at HKG are much better.

The advantages CX has on this route are schedule (possibly) and onward connections.
