We have a Platinum Card ($395 yr) that we're considering cancelling because we never use it. We have 83,000 MR points (from a previous Gold card we had years ago) which I would transfer to something before cancelling card so I won't lose those.
My husband seems to think that when we call to cancel they'll offer us some type of enticement like bonus MR points to keep it. I feel that since we haven't used the card once in 2 years, why would they much care about keeping us other than the $395, per year membership fee.
We originally got the card to get $300 shipboard credit on several cruises we've taken so it has paid for itself up until now.(you only need to OWN the card to get shipboard credit, even if you never use it). We just use our AmEx Starwood card only.
What is your guess or experience been as far as whether or not they'll offer us some bonus to keep the card? If they offer us some bonus we'll likely keep the card for the shipboard credit as we may go on another cruise in 2007.
