My mother today was flying BUF-CLT-LAX. She was on #1135 from BUF-CLT. The flight left the gate on time but sat on the runway for an hour because of fog. They ended up departing about 8am and arriving CLT about 930am. Her next flight #31 was scheduled to depart at 9:35am.

Well she got off the plane and they had a cart ready to get her to the LAX gate. Everyone had boarded and she was the last on. She figured her luggage wouldnt make that connection and didn't mind becuase she knew she was delayed due to weather, so no biggy. Well she went down to the LAX baggage claim and low and behold her luggage had made her flight.

Great job to the Charlotte crew!! :D :D ^ ^

They are certainly the best staffed from a US perspective. Flying from PHL, most my flights are direct but if I'm trying to build miles, I'll always try to connect through CLT instead of PIT for this reason. Carts ready, planes held, upgraded BPs awaiting my check-in, friendly demeanor, etc., make CLT my favorite US hub.

IMHO CLT has the best club in the system as well. The agents are very helpful and friendly.

The only thing I dislike about CLT is the food / shopping options (not US's fault), though I am much happier now that they've added the airport spa. ^

IMHO CLT has the best club in the system as well. The agents are very helpful and friendly. The old America West clubs are pretty good ... I'm not doing much alcohol these days so I don't know whether they're still giving it free, but they were doing so long after the merger. I was shocked the first time I went into a US Club and discovered they wanted $5 for a glass of mediocre wine (I refused to pay and gave them back the wine ... the bartender went berserk and had to go to the front desk to find a way to credit his cash register).

All HP and US clubs have free soft drinks, but it's not obvious because you have to go to the bar and ask for it.

LAS club is particularly friendly and helpful, but that one is outside security so it's a bit of a pain. However, LAS has a preferred 1st/Elite security line, so (if you qualify) you can get back to the gates a good bit faster than if you have to go through the regular lines.

The formerly HP clubs now charge for alcohol as well. They phased it out shortly after the merger.

Flying as a non-rev, CLT is the most helpful airport I have ever been to. Last year, myself and a friend were connecting there and missed our Transatlantic flight. While we were at the information desk trying to find a place to overnight, a delightful off-duty FA said she was going to the crew hotel, and if we didn't mind going via the Pilot Training Center, we could hop on their mini-bus to the hotel.

They were so friendly, and even waited at reception to make sure we got the employee rate.

A recent survey concluded that the reasons for the customer-friendly culture in CLT is that all of senior management are women. I won't argue with that!

Has anyone else had the joys of the warm greetings and compliments by the very gracious lady in CLT who checks IDs in the south security line (the one where the US Airways Preferred line is, in between the US and Lufthansa/Jet Blue ticket counters)? She is always such a delight and often remarks on how handsome or pretty customers are, and she really puts my trips off to a great start. She is African-American, and probably in her 40s, I'd guess. If anyone knows who she works for, I'd like to send a thank-you note.

I'd think that the reason why CLT has a generally more pleasant crew than, say, PHL is because it's in the South, not because of the gender of the staff. I've dealt with many wonderful women and wonderful men, and some really horrid women and horrid men, both in CLT and elsewhere.

Every Friday afternoon for a long time, and you're right, she's wonderful. Not sure who she works for, though -- but I know they have some sort of logo on their shirts. I'll try to remember to notice it and then google it next time.

She was the subject of a piece in the Charlotte Observer a few months ago (www.charlotte.com) - however, I couldn't seem to find it when searching - meaning I didn't get the search terms right. Perhaps others will have better luck via the Observer or Google.

Thanks for the lead; I looked at charlotte.com and found the article; she won an award, apparently. What a wonderful person she is!

NO SAD, GRUMPY TRAVELERS ALLOWED

In this Thanksgiving week of nervous fliers, tight security, uncertainty over US Airways, packed parking lots, long lines and short tempers, air travel needs a shining light.. Meet Sterlene Jones, the beacon of Charlotte/Douglas International Airport. Or as Miami-bound Kristi Campbell wondered aloud after getting her boarding pass and picture ID checked by Jones Saturday, "How precious is she?". Many of the thousands who will fly in and out of Charlotte this
