California - Eating ideas for San Diego....

I'll be flying into SAN the last week of the month for a show, and I've only been there once before, just for a day. This will be a solo trip for a week and I'll be at the Convention Center Marriott. I've been told this is near the Gas Light district.
Any good ideas on food and night life within walking distance? Seafood is out, allergic :( I know there is a Ruth's Criss somewhere around, but what are my other choices??
Also has anyone been to Dicks Last Resort in SD? How'z the food and atmosphere?
TIA
Safe travels.

My recommendation for San Diego would be
Khyber Pass
523 University Ave
serving afghan cuisine, which can be considered as a "blend" of persian and indian food.
I absolutely loved it!!!!

The Ruth's Chris website shows a location on Harbor Drive in DT San Diego (I've only been to the one in Del Mar).

If you're in town on Monday the 24th, you could join one of the finest groups of Flyertalkers around. ;)

You are within walking distance of the Gaslamp district (http://www.gaslamp.org/). Plenty to do and eat there.
What's your schedule? You could easily scare up a dinner companion.

I sure appreciate the offer, but I won't be getting in until Wednesday :( That sounds like a blast though. Maybe I can hook up with some of you on my next trip. Next few trips are in Texas, Florida and a couple of trips up with all them yankees in ""Bahhhston" :D
Hopefully I can get back to the Left Coast real soon!
Safe travels!

No Ruth's Criss downtown? What about the one on Harbor Drive by the Holiday Inn overlooking the bay?
You will have a huge variety of restaurants and clubs across Harbor Drive in the Gaslamp. Your hotel is actually in Seaport Village, which has a few restaurants, but on the whole I'd pass those by. If steak is your thing, in addition to Ruth's Cris there's a Morton's in the Gaslamp. For good Spanish food and fun I really like Cafe Seville: http://www.cafesevilla.com/SanDiego/

As noted, lots of restaurants in the Gaslamp, clubs and bars, too. Dick's Last Resort is kind of intentionally downscale if you know what I mean? Very lively, loud.
For steaks in downtown, it's Rainwater's (http://www.rainwaters.com/), north of Broadway. It's a bit of a splurge, but arguably the best San Diego has to offer in a steakhouse.
Have fun.
Since you'll be staying at the Marriott on the downtown marina, walk over to the Hyatt to the west and go up to the bar atop the Hyatt Hotel ( I think it's 42 stories up) for a spectacular view of both the city and the bay.

Hmmm...I would consider Dick's Last Resort to be MY last resort! The first, only, and last time I was there, people were throwing spitballs and random food parts at each other...total strangers I mean. Across the entire restaurant. I don't remember much about the food...pretty standard bar grub I think, but if you are looking for a "spring break" "drunken frat party" combined with a bit of "white trash" atmosphere, then this is your place!
If you want a decent atmosphere in a pub, I recommend the Dublin Square Irish Pub at 554 Fourth Avenue. It's also got standard pub food...although quite tasty, but the atmosphere is more "upscale." Although you probably need a cab to get you here because it's a good 10 city blocks or more from the hotel. There's also Sevilla at 555 Fourth Avenue, which is a great Spanish and Tapas restaurant.
As for being near the Convention Center Marriott, Morton's is right in that area and is within walking distance. I've always gotten great food and service at this location.

If you like Thai food you should try Rama. It's walking distance from your hotel. For steak there is nothing better than Rainwater's!!! I've eaten in some of the best steak houses across the country and Rainwater's is as good or better!!
If you are just walking around Gaslamp and get hungry, you should stop at Ciro's for a slice.

Thanks all for the great replies. Rainwater's sounds pretty good to me. I checked outthe menu and my mouth was watering. I like the Irish pub idea also, being Scotch/Irish.
I've been looking forward to this trip. It will only be my second time on the Left Coast and I can't wait to get back.
Thanks again. Safe travels!
