Posted in the SPG and HH forums so I already tried all the types of cards listed on the link (other than Blue Cash) plus a couple more. No luck. I guess someone at Amex looked up the definition of "targeted" before doing this one. :(

Not sure about the other cards... it clearly refers to MR points in the mailing. Couldn't figure out why the web site mentioned spg, etc. The mailing also referred specifically to Platinum.

Worked for my Platinum. I haven't received an invite, but haven't checked today's mail yet. I guess I need to wait before moving two of my bill payments over from Platinum to Centurion? I assume I won't get the points if I move them before a single payment is made?

It mentions the other programs because it's a promo AmEx is running across several cards for some targeted group of customers. Depending on the card type, the award is different (depends on what rewards the card earns--an SPG Amex cardholder gets SPG points, cashback cardholder gets cash, etc.).

Does anyone know if you get the points for existing billpays? or only new ones?

I got the notice today that I've been targeted for my Hilton card. Assuming this means bills not already charged to my Amex card, I'm aware of one bill I can transfer. I also have some monthly contributions to charities now on another card; would a transfer of one of these get me the bonus?

I received it in the mail over the weekend and tried my Platinum card, no dice. I'll try my HHonors card next, if that tanks as well, I'll wonder who the mailing was really intended for at my house.

I just got the offer for the SPG Amex card. But as someone else already asked,
do existing, "automatic bill payments" count? I already have ALL my recurring monthly bills tied to my SPG Amex card. A few bills, automatically charged to my MasterCard, are from merchants who don't accept Amex.

You could just take off those bills from automatic pay (or switch them to a mastercard or something else), then before the deadline, switch back to Amex.

Alternatively, you could just call amex and ask. But that may flag your account.

Reading the flyer carefully, I think it would have to be existing billpays, because the flyer (which I stupidly discarded) said to set up the bill pay BEFORE registering for the promotion.

If someone has the flyer, maybe they could scan it in?

I believe you are right.
This is an excerpt from Amex site promo.

“First, contact your service providers and have your bill charged to your eligible, enrolled American Express® Card. Then, log on to americanexpress.com/paytwobills to enroll for the promotion by August 31, 2006. Bonus points will be credited to your account 12-14 weeks after the charges appear on your American Express statement. 2,000 point/ $20 cash back/2,000 miles/2,000 Starpoints/2,000 Hilton HHonors bonus point max”

So if auto bill pay already setup we should get the points. Have not tried my card yet.

That's how it sounded to me too. But since the purpose of these promotions are presumably for generating sales, I assumed that I interpreted it wrong.

After my first post, I did find one (auto-pay) account set up to a Visa card. So I went ahead and switched it over to Amex. For the second "auto-pay," I was going to switch a merchant to Visa and then back to Amex. I guess now I don't have to worry about it.

I went ahead and called Amex, asking first about pre-existing bill pays and planning to ask about charitable contributions. This agent didn't know, she said she'd gotten the same question earlier: she asked how many bills I already had set up and how many were required, then said she'd add the 2000 Hhonors points as a courtesy. I went ahead and did the online registration, hoping it could only help but maybe not, and I hope there's no harm in posting this experience. I didn't ask about charities then.
