Unlike LH's recent 'Great' business class fares offer (eg Stuttgart for the same price as a r/t to Buenos Aires!!!)... the latest edition of Business Traveller Magazine (http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/92033-3-post.html) highlights some tips for getting cheaper LX and LH biz fares to a selection of European destinations.
By departing from / to LCY...Tickets can be booked in economy or business class with the price usually being less than the cost of a direct service from London Heathrow. Destinations where Swiss and Lufthansa combine flights for better connection opportunities from London City include Warsaw, Budapest, Prague, Moscow, Madrid, Barcelona and Rome.
All base fares in C/J before taxes, quoted in GBP:
WAW 324
BUD 314
PRG 320
MOW 725 ( :td: :td: )
BCN 330
FCO 316
And a couple of others:
ATH 347
VIE 327
IST 341
While none of these are as much as a steal as BA's I fares, all offer a change in ZRH or one of the German hubs, therefore 2 flights each way, 2 sets of minimum status miles for each leg.
For those who don't want the next best thing - like a hop over the pond using a cheapo UA biz fare or one of the LH promos to Asia, it does represent a status miles boosting opportunity combined with a less tiring way of doing a weekend away.
