I have about 60,000 MR rewards points on my platinum card and already have tickets through expedia for a flight to Greece coming up. They are currently coach tickets and I would really much rather sit first class expecially for such a long flight. How do I go about doing this? Transfer the points to skymiles and then call expedia or delta or could I just call amex and have them do it all for me? Thanks

Transfer the points to Skymiles and call Delta. That being said, DL allows mileage upgrades on Y,B and M class tickets only. I'd call delta before you do anything. You need to find out if 1) you have the right fare class and 2) if there are upgrades available. Btw, DL doesn't have an international FC product. They only have business class.

FYI--You can transfer the points from your computer WHILE you are on the phone with Delta(as soon as they tell you they can upgrade you) ---they will post instantly.

You can check upgrade award availability on ExpertFlyer.com by looking for Z class on your flight.

But as stated above, you can only upgrade a Y, B or M fare. If your ticket has already been issued, you should be able to see this on your eticket.

I have to give Delta some thumbs up credit where it is due. I am a Northwest Skyteam Platinum member so I always want to collect Northwest mileage, but I have accrued Membership rewards mileage to use for upgrades on Delta. Last year Delta upgraded me on a B fare from Europe with Membership Reward miles that I had transferred in advance to Skymiles. At the same time, the reservations agent coded my itinerary so that I COLLECTED Northwest Worldperks miles to requalify for Platinum Elite while I cashed in miles from my Skyteam account for the upgrade. Thank you Delta for taking care of your Skyteam elite partners!

Good luck. Only Delta can be of help here.

Delta may consider Expedia tickets bulk or something similar and even if otherwise upgradeable, refuse to upgrade them. Bought tickets through (not by bidding) Priceline and even though they accrued miles could not upgrade them.

NEVER TRANSFER POINTS BEFORE YOU KNOW AN UPGRADE IS AVAILABLE if you can help it. Get Delta to confirm upgrade and then transfer miles. As another said, transfers to Delta are immediate.

Most expedia/travelocity/orbitz tickets are not bulk. That being said, DL is very selective in the fare classes it will upgrade with miles. H/Q/K/L/U/T are not upgradable with miles.
