American Express Membership Rewards - FHR upgrade means only one category upgrade?
We are travelling in Europe next month.
I will book the hotels through PTS, and they said upgrade would be possible depend on the availability.
Do hotels upgrade us only one category such as superior to deluxe or even upgrade to suite?
I have Black Card.
Thanks in advance.

Cent = CTS not PTS. Plat = PTS...
If you have Plat then you get about a 1 level upgrade. you can find out exactly what upgrades are in the contract by asking PTS for the hotels you are interested in.
If you are a CENT holder, then book somewhere like FS/RC/PEN/MO. You get great upgrades and better benefits there.
Although I guess some other FHR might have better CENT upgrades too..

Using the Centurion card, you should be able to confirm room upgrades at the time of booking.
I usually got multi-level upgrades but not to suites. And these upgrades are subject to availability when booked with PTS!
But I am absolutely fines with that, at FS Boston I got a 4-level upgrade to their best available non-suite-room overlooking Boston Common from the highest floor. On the recent 4th-of-July-week I received no upgrade for an eight-night-stay :( in Florida!
yep

the longer you stay, the harder it is for a decent upgrade. Over those 8 nights they probably had heavy bookings on at least one of them, including confirmed reservations for any upgradeable room you may have hoped for.

The Fine Hotels and Resorts rates are the same for Platinum and Centurion. The terms of the negotiated rate are that the property will give a one-category upgrade depending on availability.
Some properties may do more than this, but they're certainly not obliged to. My experience has generally been a one-category upgrade.

It all seems to depend on the property. It seems to me that at some hotels with a large number of room levels such as FS Boston where we were also recently upgraded several levels to Common/Garden view the upgrades are more plentiful. I think time of day is a factor as well. We arrived at the FS
at about 3 PM and the room we were upgraded to came up on the computer screen as the desk clerk and I were discussing available upgrades. :) Housekeeping had apparently just finished with it. Of course it goes without saying you will always do better during slow times.
I am by the way Plat not Cent.

Wrong.... FHR rates are not always the same as a rate under AXC program. Its depends on the property and time of year. Upgrades are also different on FHR and AXC.

How does this make NickW wrong? He was commenting specifically about the FHR rates for Centurion and Platinum card holders. He was not comparing FHR rates with other rates or promotions which might give better benefits and which might not be the same for Centurion and Platinum.
